Name Of Method?

Hi all…

I have a question about what i tried today…

what is this called? [stablising during the down position when i
do bench press or squats…]

I mean when u bench press or squat, when you get the bar down, and
you are maintaining the posture for certain amount of time(maybe
for a minute)

The reason why i am asking this is because i wanna know more about this type of training, because i just tried it by misunderstanding the ‘rest pause’ method, but it hurts like hell on my chest and my
quad and hip.

Isometrics?

Those are called “pause bench” and “pause squats.” They aren’t a method per se or haven’t been formalized as such, but if held for about four seconds they negate the stretch-shortening reflex in the activated muscles and develop starting strength.

Another strategy is to do from-the bottom benches and squats. I like to use those and they do the same thing. I don’t have to wait the four seconds because I can rest the weight on the bottom pins, relaxing the muscles, and then push up. No stretch-shortening reflex and no 4 second wait. Floor presses and box squats use the smae principle.
