NAACP Plays Race Card on Tea Party

From his website, one of the writers there wrote this. If there is one thing this has shown is that we must look at all sides, so now they are going to defend themselves. It should also be said that Fox did not release this story till after she had resigned. Her blaming Biggovernment.com is understandable, but blaming Fox is inaccurate.

http://biggovernment.com/jdunetz/2010/07/20/naacp-blames-fox-and-breitbart-for-the-naacps-overreaction-to-shirley-sherrod-video/

The sandal surrounding the firing of Shirley Sherrod is getting weirder by the second. Now the NAACP is blaming Fox News and Andrew Breitbart for the NAACPâ??s own overreaction to the release of the video of Ms Sherrod, released on Big Government yesterday.

The video showed Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development, speaking at an NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Georgia. The part of her speech covered in the video saw Ms Sherrod tel a story about providing only minimal help to a Caucasian farmer who came to her for help.

Today Sherrod said the video was taken out of context. She said that a video of her entire speech would reveal that she described the 24 year old incident as a turning point in her life. Ms Sherrod said that was the point where she learned it was not all about race, it was about poverty. She eventually helped that white farmer to keep his farm and even became friends with the farmer and his wife.

Almost immediately after Shirly Sherrod resigned, the NAACP President Ben Jealous released a statement condemning her.

â??We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color and female farmers,â?? the statement said.

â??Her actions were shameful,â?? it continued. â??While she went on to explain in the story that she ultimately realized her mistake, as well as the common predicament of working people of all races, she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man.â??

When this statement was released it seemed very important , after all Ms. Sherrod was speaking at an NAACP function, and while Big Government only had access to the video they released, the NAACP had access to the entire video. Certainty they must have seen the entire video before they condemned Shirley Sherrod. Well Certainly not!

As soon as Ms Sherrod blasted the NAACP for not talking to her before bashing her the NAACP withdrew their statement. Thatâ??s when Ben Jealous then called Sherrod to find out her side of the story.

Following their conversation NAACP President Jealous released the following statement

â??With regard to the initial media coverage of the resignation of USDA official Shirley Sherrod, we have come to the conclusion we were snookered by Fox News and Tea Party Activist Andrew Breitbart into believing she had harmed white farmers because of racial bias,â?? said Jealous. â??Having reviewed the full tape, spoken to Ms. Sherrod, and most importantly heard the testimony of the white farmers mentioned in this story, we now believe the organization that edited the documents did so with the intention of deceiving millions of Americans.â??

â??The fact is Ms. Sherrod did help the white farmers mentioned in her speech,â?? he continued. â??They personally credit her with helping to save their family farm.â??

Snookered??? How could they be snookered, Shirley Sherrod spoke at an NAACP event. Mr. Jealous had access to the entire tape but he never bothered to look at it before he blasted Ms Sherrod.

Sorry Mr. Jealous, but you canâ??t be snookered when you hold all of the evidence. And you are still missing a major part of the video its not necessarily about Shirley Sherrod. Watch the video again, listen for the approval of the crowd as she talked disparagingly about the white farmer and how she sent him to one of his own for help. You see, Ms Sherrodâ??s story doesnâ??t change the fact that the NAACP audience seemed to have approved of her actions when she talked about not helping the white farmer.

Shirley Sherrodâ??s story doesnâ??t change the fact Ben Jealous had access to the entire video and blasted Sherrod without watching it. That is not the fault of Andrew Breitbart, nor is it the fault of Fox News, it is the fault of only one person, Ben Jealous President of the NAACP.

After reading Biggovernment.com’s response I think he made some good point too. First off, the NAACP should have reviewed the whole tape before blasting her like they did, and second the crowd’s reaction in that of approval is also disturbing.

My thoughts, she deserves her Job back, Breitbart owes her an apology(if he is the one who did the editing if not he should at least give up who sent it in and they should apologies) but the NAACP should then issue a statement against the crowd she was talking too about their apparent support of her not helping a “white” man.

Something tells me there is a lot more to this story the meets the eye. She blames it on Glenn Beck in this video.

Sherman was truly one of the worst parts of the war. You’re hero, makes sense.
Your brazenly dishonest presentation of “facts” isn’t worth a refutation (Sherman enoucraged soldiers to rape women, just dumb), but don’t start up the “Lost Cause” refrain yet again - you and yours will go down unceremoniously in flames like you always do.
SO your unaware of a historical event known as Sherman’s march to the sea, how typical.

But, in Shermans defense he did discourage the rape of white women.

My apologies on the video not being completely true. I found it on biggovernment.com and thought it was relevent to the topic. Breightbart only had access to that part though, why would the naacp only release that bit. I think this shoes thier intention very well. If they were not racist and wanted to bring people together, they would have released the whole thing, because it shows a change of heart. I believe they only released that part to keep racism alive, but I do believe we will see more come out about this befor it is over. Again though I am sorry for posting something out of context, and will do a better job here on out. I also owe Sherod an apology.

I agree on all fronts. Incidentally, for such a “liberal” news organization I saw CNN take an NAACP spokesman for task on this and also vehemently criticize the government for condoning sacntuary cities’ flagrant disregard of the law.

I also think Breibart missed the mark on the larger point he was trying to make. His complaint was the branding of Tea Party as racist based on the conduct of a few INDIVIDUALS in the audience at Tea Party rallies. But his implication was that the NAACP is racist for the same thing. The point should have been that the conduct of INDIVIDUALS at particular events that receives no official support is not evidence of racism for either organization.

Oh, come on. The NAACP did not release a partial video because they are “racist” and “want to keep racism alive.” They released it with a CONDEMNATION of her conduct out of stupidity, in a rush to judgment without actually searching their own archives or consulting the speaker. If anything, they were overly concerned with condeming racism of all types, against all colors. So much so that they failed to do their homework.

While the stuff he did in the civil war was terrible and would get him a war crimes tribunal and a death sentence today, The stuff he did to the Indians after the civil war was much worse.

all Indians not on reservations “are hostile and will remain so until killed off.” --The Sher-mice-ter

I love this little bit from Mary Frances Berry, who was appointed to the Civil Rights Commission by Carter and Clinton. Here’s what she had to say about the Tea Party & racism.

“Tainting the tea party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats. There is no evidence that tea party adherents are any more racist than other Republicans, and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging their ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats win in November. Having oneâ??s opponent rebut charges of racism is far better than discussing joblessness.”

LOL. At least she’s kinda honest.

They did not do it to candemn her. She was not even fired untill it was thought she would be on Beck. Trust me the naacp would not fail to do their homework on someone they wanted to condemn. I have seen them dig up stuff as far back as this, also if they watched enough to see theese clips, they would have seen the part where she explains how she changed, and yes she should get her job back. I am sending out an email to my tea party asking them to call people in the gov, since we are in GA.

She still admitted to racist practices in her job, she just thinks she got better. How does this absolve her?

At least she is getting better. She no longer calls us Honkeys or Crackers, she just refers to us at White People.

I’m serious about this. The short version with her racist view of whites, viewing things along racial lines, and with holding of aid due to race was entirely in context. How does saying, “25 years later I don’t do that any more” absolve her?

This is the same as “a wise latin woman reaches a better conclusion”, “oh I was just encouraging Latinos” utter BS.

Well it shows progress. We all have demons to conquer and it takes time for a person to change. If she says she has changed as she did in the full video, I think she deserves another chance. She does still have marxist redistibution leanings wjich concerns me way more than what she did 25 yrs ago. I think an eye should be kept on her.

What?

A woman with a billion dollar tax payer funded budged admits to distributing aid based on race and still having tenancies to view things racially, and she gets another chance?

If it were a white guy would he get another chance?

This stuff she admits to thinking and even currently believing is nauseating. “it was obvious he was trying to show he superiority to me” ← she admits to still believing that.

What I think is so funny is how obama jumped the gun and pressured her firring, when not long ago he came down hard on a certain police officer that was just doing his job as acting stupidy. Today Robert Gibbs issued an apology saying they acted withou all the facts. I think another beer summit is in order.

Like I said keep an eye on her. How could you think of firing someone for what they did 24 yrs ago. I do see your point though. I think this is just to get our attention away from the finance bill he signed today or yesterday

No this is not the same.

The police officer thing they commented on without know any fact about the officer.

This racist lady they commented on after listening to her racist views.

Further, they immediately apologized to this racist because they later found out she claimed to have gotten better about racial decision making (even though she still admits racist beliefs), the officer (who was never racist to begin with) was never apologized to publicly.

and if she is involved in trying to down play the signing, then yes fire her and put her in jail for conspiracy.
