In all fairness, Ryan Reynolds isn’t “skinny as hell”. This is -

No, that isn’t skinny. That is starving.
WTF is with the metro-emo queer crowd posting on here lately?
Fuck, did they change this to estrogen nation and I missed the memo?
Clearly you didn’t miss the memo because here you are clawing at me and kicking your heels off in a tantrum like a sissy. I don’t see what makes Ryan Reynolds “metro-emo queer” other than the fact that you’re too busy trying to be a tough guy who can’t appreciate, or at the very least, respect all walks of life, regardless of whether you agree with them or not.
I’m going to have to say I agree with rg73 on this one. I would venture to say that Ryan Reynolds is a skinny bastard. I also agree that this is a bodybuilding forum. Recently I have seen a lot of people post who don’t seem to get this elementary information. The reason I come to T-Nation is to get away from people like you, the people who want to be built like a pathetic skinny actor just because they think he looks cool. It seems everywhere I go I run into these spandex wearing metros who want a six-pack to show off to their gay friends while watching Brokeback Mountain. Also, I read your post about not wanting to be 250 pounds of “useless” mass. Well, maybe you should take your own advice and respect other peoples’ ways of life. But, as for me, I’d rather be 250 pounds of useless mass than 5’10" of useless gayness.
Tall, lean, fit, muscular?
BTW you plan to grow 12 inches in height? IF you’re still 5’3" the rules of the game are different for you. HAve a proportionate brad-pittesque physique (for your height) and see where that gets you, go ahead. (hint: you’ll look like David Faustino on “Married with children” and get about as much action) Get to 250 pounds and you’ll look weird (like that guy Ott on WSM) but will STILL get more action than the other case. You may want to shoot for shoulders a bit on the wide side for your height that actually make you look a bit on the stocky side. If youre kinda below average height (like me, I’m 5’8") things are a bit more different. If you’re average height, or over average, or well over etc etc etc…you gotta figure what will work for you. Of course thats NOT the purpose of this site/forum.

That’s great if the OP wants a body like Ryan Reynolds, however this is a BODYBUILDING website, repeat after to me, BODYBUILDING, Ryan Reynolds doesn’t equal BODYBUILDING.

Actually, what does equal to BODYBUILDING? A big HGH-gut and a low fatpercentage? 19 inch arms? As far as I know, the subforum “Bodybuilding” here was called “Building a better body” a couple weeks ago - and that’s exactly what the OP want to.
Ryan Reynolds may not be big, but he is bigger than the OP. When and if he grows the same amount of musclemass as Ryan Reynolds, his vision of what is “big” and “manly” may change to something bigger. Isn’t that what it did for you, when you started growing? Got new idols, new ways you body should look. Before you began lifting weights, you was probably disgusted by Dexter Jackson, but now it may a psychique you think is good.
And just the fact that his posts are in the Beginner-forum means that he is a beginner and don’t want to be as big as some bigger guys wants to be - but that may change when himself grows bigger.
I really can’t see why it’s wrong to have an idol, even if that idol is by T-Nation-standards not big.

MAybe we should add a forum on romantic poetry and music to assist you in your goals. Most of us have gotten or are getting laid frequently and are building mass for many otehr reasons, mainly for self improvement and personal challenges.
Yes, 125 pound guys (and so do guys like Kevin James and the fat guy rom Howard Stern)get laid as well with fine looking women, so thats not the intent of this site.
Don;t come here with bland statements about “uhh…de gals said dey prefer skinny guys…”. There are other sites which cater to those tastes. If you want an aesthetic physique and 6 pack abs, you have menshealth which has very good articles I use for my own cutting purposes. IF youre on here, don;t bleat about meanshealth/crossfit goals.
Haha relax man. This is an internet forum. Youre going to get all kinds of people on here and you just have to deal with it unless this becomes a subscription/pay site.
Secondly, Im just trying to make the guy feel better. Some people who are over weight or really out of shape will look for ANY kind of motivation, and if “Ryan Reynolds” is this guys motivation to look a certain way or just GET HEALTHY then who are you to tell him he is less of a man than anyone else on here?
And I never said “uhh…de gals said dey prefer skinny guys…” All I said, (to make the original poster feel better because Im sure he already feels like shit) is that you dont need to look like incredible hulk to look “appealing.” Just train hard, eat a lot, be consistent, and do everything the right way.
Its weird how some of you will sit there and say, “dude, we dont give a shit about getting laid…all you care about is an aesthetically pleasing body…go over to mens health you pussy blah blah blah” So you work out for your health ONLY 100%??? Bullshit. Im not saying “health” is not a part of it, but aesthetics play a pretty big role as well. Everyone on here wants to achieve their ideal look.
Look man, all im saying is being that this is an internet forum, and all kinds of people come on here, its not wise to just berate someone who is trying to make a positive change in themselves. Obesity, and other health related problems is a big problem in this country, so whatever someone wants to do to get healthy and make a change in their life, Ill encourage them, regardless of my personal opinions on the AESTHETICS of their goal.

It would be great if he followed it himself. He is the one who originally posted this “great advice”. I was not the one crying about respecting others’ ways of life. He was. And could you please define dick-swinging to me? I couldn’t find it in the dictionary.

No, this particular FORUM is concerned solely with that. This “site,” though also largely oriented towards such, also contains Atomic Dog (which I think occasionally mentions sex and other things that aren’t “necessarily about weight training or bodybuilding”) as well as Sex and the Male Animal.
The man posted here on this forum, as a beginner, for advice on how to build his body to meet his goal (read: making this the correct location), not how to get laid. His reasons are “worked out,” they are his own, and are certainly not for you to judge.

While I applaud you on your ability to keep up to date with the sex lives of “most” T-Nation members (information garnered by either a) reading the ever-reliable forums- where EVERYONE tells the truth! or b) by stalking/ peeping…perv), I will have to disagree with you that most people don’t consider the sex appeal of a built body to be an additional perk.

Exactly, because no one on this here site- one you claim is for, amongst other things, “bodybuilding”- wants an aesthetic physique.

Yes, you’re right…Brant…people are not saying things simply to insult him. You are. You, admittedly, don’t know him, his history, his desires, “whatever”, yet you can somehow divine that he will never reach his goals. NEVERMIND the fact that he’s been on a diet for a few months now and has almost reached his ORIGINAL GOAL of 7% bf (down from 20%). Surprising, isn’t it, how you can judge a man’s willpower to succeed simply by looking at his end goal, yet you can’t be bothered to READ HIS FIRST POST TO SEE HOW FAR HE HAS ALREADY COME.
Not only that, but you have also somehow managed to find a way of calculating whether or not someone’s goal is “great” or “mediocre” or “worthless” in regards to their personal, subjective lives and experiences.
But, shit, no one intends to be insulting by lobbing out phrases like
weak, sad, sonofabitch
.
I really wish I could find the words to describe what a useless, degenerate piece of trash I find you to be, Brant. It’s posts like these, and the lack of responses to such, that make me think that AT LEAST more than a few people on this site are actively trying to drag this place down to the very core of hell just so that Satan himself can usurp TC as Editor-in-Chief.
The fact that there are people on this site that actually get their rocks off by preying on ignorant newbs looking for advice in the CORRECT FORUM is a startling indication of just how much of a social cesspool this place is in danger of becoming. So many of you people have become so creepily inbred by the whole “T-Man” concept of these forums that it’s become perverted to the point where you simply can’t fucking appreciate anything other than the ideals set forth by people whom you have never fucking met. It’s like you people feel that if you just smear enough of your jizz onto the faces of these newbs as insultingly as possible, eventually they will simply give up and start drinking it. Fuck. That.
Grow up, people, or at the very least show some fucking respect. At least he’s doing something to improve himself. Who knows, maybe when he gets his Ryan Reynolds physique, he’ll want to touch it up here and there with some more muscle. Either way, he’s doing a helluva lot more than most people in this country- and yes, I’ll say it- on this site, too.
let me get this straight… you’ve been dieting for “a few months” and you’re “3 weeks out” from 7% body fat (having started at 20%). L O L. Yeah.

I wouldn’t call him out on this because, for the most part, I agree with Brant. If Ryan Reynolds is someone who you look up to physique-wise, then yeah I would consider you sad. As for you Conner, someone must have hit a raw nerve with you. What kind of metro sexual wannabe fantasies are you hiding that cause you to get so worked up over this.
Also, if this site is so fucking bad and you hate it and disagree with what happens on here so much, then leave. No one is forcing you to come to this site and read the articles. It is your choice.
Wow, there is a lot of energy used up on this thread.
Squats and milk.
In this pic he has some killer abs, but his chest, shoulders and arms look VERY WEAK!
I like this physique, the dude has a killer 6 pack along with awesome delts, chest, which is nice & flared out, arms.

“NO WAY THAT GUY IS SO SMALL…WHAT A PUSSY!”
Dont you get it? Unless you look like the picture I attached, you aint shit to some people on this forum. Anything else is just a “metrosexual emo fill in the blank body part due to my limited vocabulary”

Yes! We have longed for a brave hero, one who is not afraid of attacking an infamous post such as that! Would that there were more men such as you, good and noble sir. Children will be inspired by your name for thousands of years to come!
Hmm, news to me.
I can see the future.
I did read his first post. Before I wrote a response I read most of his previous posts to get an idea of who he was before I typed anything on this thread.
I especially liked this post of his
It has nothing to do with that. Just the approach you have seems lax and looks like a joke. “I don’t like going to the gym. I just want to have some fun!!”…what the fuck do you think weightlifting is? Minigolf? You should be putting 100% into everything you do, even if it’s at the bottom of your priorities.
Starting out and already limiting yourself with a retarded attitude like that is basically like stepping up the the plate with 3 strikes already. Clearly you’re one of those guys who are already content with their appearance and just want to lift some weights so they can bullshit around and tell people “Yeah I workout”. Stfu.
http://www.T-Nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1257167&pageNo=0#1257293
If he applied that drive to himself, I would have been writing very different things on this thread. I especially liked the part about limiting oneself with a retarded attitude.
Because goals are not subjective. Great is great, and mediocre is mediocre, no matter what. Success is worthy of respect, half-assing anything is not, and succeeding at half-assing and pretending that that is worthy of respect is even worse. I used to want to be an abercrombie model, if I had done that, do you think that that is worthy of respect? Especially here?
I love this next part.
But you did find them! I’m so proud of you! You must be . . what’s that word? Smart! Yeah, smart!
He’s on to us!
Actually, I won’t don the black robes of the defiler until I sacrifice 2 more virgins.
Speaking of getting rocks off, nice metaphor there. Not the first place my mind would have gone, but . . . .
I hope you have been able to detect that my response to your post is less than serious. If you want to talk about respect, your language and personal attacks on me demonstrate your ignorance of what that word means. Your last sentence also demonstrates an ignorance and lack of respect for the people that make up T-Nation. If for some reason your ego compels you to respond to this, then send me a PM. I’d hate for a petty squabble to be the sole reason for this threads’ continuation.
are all you lards smoking crack???
why is everyone saying that reynolds movie guy is skinny?? hes way above average in the muscle and ripped dept.
did you see him in the movie about amnityville horror!!
the dude looked a solid 200+ lbs.
whats with all the haters.
if you think that…go…away…forever
