Very cool!
What footage is it? I’m building a house soon with a 12 x 20 foot garage (read - gym) but am unsure if it’ll be big enough - i’m laying down some judo mats as well.
About 20x30. We have a huge parking lot and a 200 foot hallway to use for carries and drags. Also 4 flights of stairs for carries and falling down.

Indeed - that is big. I have stairs at home which i fall down on occasion - it really does’nt help training that much - a little - but not a lot.
That’s frickin tight. Best gym ever. All you need is a wheelbarrow! (haha sorry, I just really like wheelbarrows).
BTW, where’d you get the kegs and dipstand? And for how much? I need to get 1 or 2 kegs and a new dip stand.
Best of luck with the business.

P.S. Don’t forget the wheelbarrow! =)
Sweet! I am still putting mine together in the garage. (3 car garage so there is plenty of space.) I have an incline/decline bench, dip station, and 2 complete sets of plates and a weight tree. 1 universal bar, a curl bar, and a set of dumbbells. Saving up for a power rack and extra bench and trying to locate a few tires, kegs, and sandbags.
Well I like this thread and thought I would post some pics of my own little retreat. It doesn’t quite compare to Derek’s (unfortunatly the wife thinks you should actually park your car in the garage so I am a little limited on space). But I think everyone that has a home gym or personal training gym like Derek should post pics of their setups so we can all get some good ideas about how we can maximize our setups.

I’ve got about $1000 in this setup and for me it is probably the best grand I have ever spent. I am planning to add some more bars (cambered and safety squat), maybe some dumbbells, and after I win the fight with the wife over parking arrangements maybe a glute ham raise. Then I’ll be happy. The next fucking house I buy will have a three car garage dammit…
Let me know what you guys think!

I am building a kick-ass wheelbarrow that is plate-loaded and using a solid rubber tire. (I like wheelbarrows too thanks to John Davies!)
Dip from newyorkbarbells.com (cheap but I forget $$$)
As for kegs…
I train a Mom, (to look good) a Son (for baseball) and a daughter (for HS soccer & B-Ball) in the same family… They own three restaurants. The son got three kegs for me when they got a beer/liquor delivery. The driver just asked for $10.00 each! Great deal huh? See if you can stop at a liquor store or a tavern-type bar and ask around.
You’ll need a dental pick to remove the snap rings holding the guts in and if you’re lucky, you’ll get a mouthful of skunked beer for your efforts! Then just get a 2" plug for swimming pools etc. for the top.
I think you’ve got a great beginning there. Actually you don’t NEED more. It’s just cool to keep adding stuff.
You could try doing lock-out deadlifts with what looks like a Ford Taurus there. Come to think of it, we used to get under my Ranger pick-up and try benching it off the ground. The best we could do is lift the body up on the springs a bit but it was kinda cool… like isometrics that move a little.
My view from the 4th floor.
The best workouts have snow getting sucked in by the fan in the window and Tool or Rage Against the Machine shaking the glass out of the 100 year old windows!
I’ll post pics in the spring when we do Strongman Saturdays outside.
If anyone has any questions on how to make some of this stuff just ask. I have a lot of helpful hints such as getting a 3’ heavy canvas duffle bag for what I’d guess to be a 200lb sandbag at Ocean State Job Lot (like a big Dollar Store if you are not familiar) for a whopping 5 bucks! Even Army/Navy stores around me are charging $28.00 for these!
A client of mine is a master wood craftsman. He wants to manufacture a Caber for me ala Highland Games. The ones we looked at were “assembled” with 2x8 boards layered and overlapped and then carved to taper.
Things to make; Caber, Hammer, Weight-for-Height implements, wheelbarrow, Massive pulling harness out of firehose and the list goes on!

Great setup, My studio is right down the street in Bridgewater. What kind of people do you have training there?
I left Golds in East Bridgewater about a year ago. Many reasons behind the move but mostly beacuse I was “too radical” for them (I guess). They had a really cool group of powerlifters (BigIron) but the gym really catered to “machine people”.
I had worked out of that gym for 8 years and never felt at home. In fact the last straw was my steel dragging sled. About two years ago now, I had my own sled made to my specs; cut, bent, welded drilled etc. Got all the attachments, belts etc. My clients and I were LOVING it, every nice weather day until I was told I had to stop using it. No reason, just STOP! A member later told me that he overheard the owner talking to the resident degreed “athletic coach” about what exactly he thought we were doing and he simply shrugged his shoulders and said “I have no idea”. (not to mention that the very catalogs they used to purchase new equipment from sold three versions of the sled!) Time to go!
Anyway, everyone of my clients went with me and I am forever grateful to them for thier support. My business is slowly growing by word of mouth. I just found out that one of my most recent clients lost a dress size in three weeks. And this is a woman with a “bad” knee and a recently torn artery in her neck![/quote]
Very nice. Good luck to you!
