I have a question…I go to this gym, (I train alone at home, this is new experience) and I’m doing deadlifts…and some bodybuilder guy who has quite a bit of size on him…is sittin on my plates I’m usin for deadlifts…and he is startin at me, no acknowledge…but I smiled at him…but TO ME this was very disrespecful…especailly when I tried to add weight and he was STILL sittin on it.
He did this 3 times and finally I just stare at him, and he looks and gets up. My friend comes up to me and asks (he is watching from a distance) is there a problem? people are lookin, there is tension buildin up.
Now what do you all think about that? Of course this guy is walkin around the gym thinkin he is the shit, wearing his Animal Hat and what not. No wonder these fuckin guys get a bad rep. Anyways next time I’m at this gym if he decides to do this again, I will tell him in respecful fashion that he did this last time and I don’t like it, so I’d like it if he didn’t do it. If he says somethin back, he’s gonna be told to get the fuck up…
He is just trying to test you… ignoring and being polite will help most of the time. Don’t let it intimidate you and do your thing. Gym hierarchy… pff, probably a douchebag who gets all of his confidence out of his muscle mass.
Uh what? I have never seen or heard anything like this. You were deadlifting, and between sets he was sitting on your plates? Weird. Prob just a total douchebag.
Dude, are you in the U.K or U.S.A? this guy sound s like a total king sized cock rocket. I agree with Tatsu, this guy’s ego and confidence has probably grown in tandem with his muscle mass and steroid use.
I’m guessing from your typing that your not English or American and this guy (animal hat douche bag guy) is, perhaps he is racist and was trying to intimidate you. A polite and patient response to his childish arrogance and attempted bullying will leave him exposed a what in idiot he is, these people make me laugh, all you need to do is go to a boxing club or dojo if you want to fight, and prick’s like this swan round the gym hiding behind their muscles and massaging their over inflated ego’s.
If this guy had any self confidence or self esteem he wouldn’t be so desperately insecure that he would need to carry on like this.
I think this is a good time to look back to John Mcallum’s keys to progress series, anyone who hasn’t read it should, it was published in strength and health in monthly installments the 60’s I think.
He basically goes on to say that people like this represent the worst side of weightlifting, and that once you are jacked up you become an advert for weightlifting and stand out from the crowd, therefore you need to behave in a responsible manner.
Sorry to hear this anyway dude, people who act like this are an embarrassment to us, and give people who do weights a bad name. Just remember, the dog who barks the loudest is the one thats most afraid.
Seriously though, that is fucking weird. He definitely has no friends and hasn’t had sex in a number of years. I’d struggle not to ask him what the fuck he was doing but no, I agree with Tatsu.
Maybe he’s waiting for you to sit on the other end of the barbell so it’s like a seesaw which reminds him of being with his little sister who unfortunately died a while back.
I’ve never seen/experienced anything like this … Maybe he felt threatened by you and decided to let it be known he was the alpha king shit 'round those parts? (i have a hard time believing this kind of behavior garners any kind of respect or admiration)
He was sitting on the plates that were loaded on the bar that you were using? Or you had plates laying flat on the floor? Who would want to sit on plates period? Maybe you should drop a 45 near his feet and he would get the hint.
I would have kicked him in the face. Recently an old guy got on a piece of equipment I wasn’t done with yet, so I broke his hip and through him in the lap pool to see if he could still swim. My court date is set for April.

Were you holding a shoe while you did it?
OP–Don’t sweat it. He was prolly just on tha roidz…
But seriously–it might help to be more vocal at the onset of a situation like that, before it becomes awkward.

Something like this. But maybe leave this part out:

Yeah me too, never encountered or witnessed even the biggest guys at my gym acting like douches. They might walk around like the run the place but never show anyone disrespect like that. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again, if it does be respectful about it, maybe alert gym managment you’re being harrassed. I’m sure nothing else will happen after that but a 25 pound dumb bell to the face would destroy anybody.
I agree that this guy sounds strange, but instead of just staring at him and making the situation awkward, why not just say something? And I don’t mean a confrontation, why not just politely point out to him that he’s in your way?
