Gym, Vent!

so lets get right to it…

I was doing snatch grip dead lifts and teaching my friend to do them also, anyway this really obese guy(about 400lbs) walks up and this is how the convo went, and im sure i missed a couple little things but heres how it went for the most part…

fat guy- “What are you guys doing?”
-ME- “dead lifts”
fat guy- “let me see your form…”

(i do one dead lift with snatch grip)

fat guy- “thats not how you do it your grip is wrong”
-ME- “Im doing snatch grip dead lifts thats why im doing them wide”
fat guy- “well what are you training for?”
-ME- “to get bigger?”
fat guy- “well do you do power cleans?”
-ME- “yeah sometimes?”
fat guy- “well let me see you do one”
-Me- “no im not doing those today”

(im starting to get annoyed now)

fat guy- “well those are how you get big, let me see you do one”
-Me- “no im not doing those today can you leave me alone”
fat guy- “let me see you do a dead lift again then”
-ME- “no get away from me”
fat guy- “no im just going to stand here, i want to see you do a dead lift”
-ME- “thats creepy as fuck, get away, i dont think you know what you are talking about”
fat guy- “oh yeah, well i played in the NFL”
-ME- “haha yeah ok me too, get away your creeping me out”

-fat guy- keeps saying all these dumb ass remarks and starts to walk away still saying shit, i respond something along the lines of
“what the fuck do you know you fat fuck, your creepy as fuck”

finally i can finish my work out…then about 15 mins later i go to leave the gym and walk past the same guy…

fat guy- (talking to his friend) "hey thats the kid who called me a creep
-ME- (i try to stay calm but i cant hold it in) “YOU ARE A FUCKING CREEP YOU FAT FUCK, WHY THE FUCK SHOULD I LISTEN TO A GUY WHO CANT SEE HIS OWN DICK”

everyone around is just staring and the fat ass dosnt say anything and then i leave.

The End, just had to vent guys, im always open to advice but this guy would not freaking leave me alone, and i get along with everyone usually but this guy just set me off, how would you guys respond to this

Why did you perform for him? Are you a show monkey?

I would have said: “So if I do them your way, will I look like you?”

If you really did this, then in the words of Ali G: “Respect.”

I never would have been in this position. I keep my iPod in and don’t talk to anyone. (My wife does the same thing.)

Creeps don’t talk to either of us. It’s wonderful.

You can buy a Shuffle for only $80. Best money you’ll ever spend for peace at the gym.

I love it!!!

  • well im always up for advice and i thought maybe he had something intelligent to say, and i was wearing my monkey suit.

I would have said: “So if I do them your way, will I look like you?”

  • haha i should of said that.

  • yes i really did say something along the lines of that, and i just realized how many times i said the word “fuck”

im thinking about it.

Its always the fat guys isnt it.

There is a few at my gym. They are the most loud, obnoxious pains in the ass in the gym.He thinks he is the resident trainer, handing out tips to people 10x as muscular as himself. He is harmless but generally a pain in the ass.

U got pissed off with this guy and let him have it,thats one way to handle it.

What u should have done is ignored this guy completly.people hate being ignored so if u would have just went to get a drink from the fountain or change the tunes on the radio that would have been better.

U have to be careful what u say to people,he could have been a complete nut for all u know and gone out to his car and grabbed his gun and blew u away for calling him all kinds of fat and creepy.

Im not saying what u did was wrong but next time just try and chill out and handle it better , some people are just born to be annoying. They just always seen to be fat for one reason or another.

Peace

CL has really put his finger inside of the correct here.

ipod = brilliant

“CAN’T SEE HIS DICK!?” = I love this part

snatch gr DL’s = huge boner for these

on alighter note I was doing Litvinovs today and had a similar experience. Apparently the floor under the track had some offices. So here I am front squatting some 100# DB’s and then flinging them onto the rubber floor (rubber bells too, bouncey) and jetting around the track. Then the uni rec guy that works there moseys on up to me and politely tells me that someone below wants me to stop. The guy who called shows up right then. I say…

“Oh, whoops, sure no probs”

and the guys who complained looks at the bells (Rubber ones look massive) and says…

“holy shit, how much weight is that!?”

and then I continue my training but set the weights down. It’s still torture.

My story is much less exciting.

I would have asked him what team he played for and possibly made a friend after telling him my background and quickly explaining why we’re doing what we’re doing as my friend practices.

I was very polite in the beggining and explained what i was doing, and just insisted i was doing it wrong and he was talking to me like i was a 10 year old or something, very out of line.

Im friends with a huge guy that played pro and is a trainer there, i told him what happend and he laughed his ass off.

awesome story man!

What a wierdo, personality disorder lot’s of humans have it.

Wow, definitely a wierdo.

Yeah I would have asked him what team he played for and what years he played.

If it was me, I would apologize to the guy the next time you see him. Tell him you are sorry and didn’t mean any harm.

You said that you get along with everybody, so this is just an isolated incident. Maybe start talking to him and see if you have anything in common, and maybe if he wants to lift with you.

No harm in asking.

It’s gotta be tough trying to keep your cool in a situation like that. At least it didn’t devolve into a fight, that’s all I can say.

The reason for my post is to second the opinion of the first reply you got: I’ve had my mp3 player for 2 years now and with the rare exception of someone asking for a spot I don’t get bothered in the gym.

Too many people are there for whatever social experience they feel is necessary to justify their monthly payment, I’d rather lift heavy and fast and get the hell out of there.

F*ck that. Someone playing like most likely needs his ass beat.

You see, if you ignore him and go on, he will be there for the next person after you.

But if you beat his ass, he will think twice about messing with people.

Unfortunately, you cannot really waste time with every individual you come across that seems to be mentally challenged. Especially in the gym. But if you beat a select few, you:

  1. spread the word not to fuck with you, and
  2. spread the word that when people mess around with others like this they just might get an azz beatin.

If traffic jams were more like a line at the movies, I am confident less people would cut in line. Can’t really hit someone in their car as they drive away when u get out, but you can hit someone close to you without a car.

one more thing, if you are going to interrupt someone’s work out, why not ask if it is ok if you point something out for them?

“hey man, can i tell you how you may improve on your squats?”

this is totally reasonable and respectable. But what most self inflicted fat asses seem to think is everyone needs their perspective to increase their gains. …whataver

I think I would have said

‘Please leave Shamu or I will harpoon your ass’

I can sort of relate because I’ve gotten workout and nutrition advise from a few fatties. I just roll my eyes and they go away.

Either way I wouldn’t have raised my voice. You might have just made yourself look more foolish than him.

Did he stand behind you and ask you to demonstrate stiff-legged deads and romanian deads, all while making nummy noises?

I really have no reason to appologize, he was the one out of line, i would be more then happy to accept an apology from him. And its quite hard to get along with a social retard.

Great story, and kudos for holding ground and pushing back.

I just want to add however, you are lucky the guy didn’t throw down. 400lbs vs. your 170 would probably have ended with him on top and you disappearing in the netherworlds.

Funny stuff though! Never had anything like that happen to me either. One old guy asked if he could give me advice and said not to let my knees pass my feet when I squat. I thanked him, he went on his way, and I kept squatting deep like I always did. My knees pass my feet. A lot like Clarence Bass in fact.

Dude, how long is your rap sheet? How many gyms have you been kicked out of? I don’t think that “he was creeping me out/being a dick” is a good enough excuse to beat the hell out of someone, especially when you’re explaining it to the police.
