Morning weigh-in: Same ballpark, but now I’ve downloaded the Happy Scale app. Finally, a tool that will take my daily obsession with the scale and turn it into charts, graphs, and “trends.” Nothing says “I’m fine, really” like data-visualized suffering.
Rabbit hole report: The Algorithm has discovered I’m on the Velocity Diet and has now unleashed Lyle McDonald content into my feed. I don’t know whether to thank it or file a restraining order.
Training: Feeling the presses from yesterday, and I added chin-ups because It’s the one lift that survived my high volume running weeks.
Daily routine: Coffee first thing, then out for a walk before breakfast/work. Trying to pretend this is a “mindful morning ritual” instead of me distracting myself until the blender clock-in.
Blender report: My blender has officially developed a personality. Yesterday morning, when I reached for the protein tub, it muttered (in my head, but still), “Oh great, another day of unpaid overtime. Do you even know how many shakes I’ve blended this week? OSHA’s gonna hear about this.” Pretty sure by next week it’s going to unionize with my coffee maker.
Going to post more occasionally now that I’ve got a routine going.
Morning weigh-in: 191 lbs. At this rate, my belt holes are filing for early retirement.
Milestone: Today also marks 60 days without alcohol. I used to think a couple beers (or more) was just part of “relaxing.” Turns out, I actually relax better now… mostly because I’m asleep by 10:00 after my bedtime protein shake. Who needs IPA when you’ve got micellar casein and three bathroom trips a night?
Hunger: Mostly under control. My stomach has stopped screaming and now just occasionally sulks in the corner.
Training: Really enjoying the Armor Building Formula. Complexes are turning out to be just as brutal as ultramarathon training, only this time my toenails get to live.
Blender report: Yesterday I threw butternut squash into a shake. The blender groaned like I’d asked it to puree drywall, but joke’s on him — it was amazing. Smooth, sweet, almost like dessert… if dessert came in the form of liquid baby food.
Dinner: Continues to be life-changing. I can’t believe how grateful I am for brown rice and chicken. My family’s still concerned by the noises I make at the dinner table.
Biggest change: Processed junk food feels less tempting. Vegetables in smoothies feel like secret weapons. And apparently, sobriety + shakes = progress.
Takeaway: Ten days in, 191 lbs, 60 days dry, and I’m feeling stronger and clearer than I did during months of ultramarathon training. Not bad for a guy whose blender is plotting a worker’s strike.
Yup second that. I gave up drinking for a year 2011-2012, started again Jan 2013, drank for a month, without ever getting drunk, but still had the habits and the pull of alcohol (not addicted, just found it to be insidious). Stopped end of Jan 2013 and haven’t drank since, don’t miss alcohol one bit - I still occasionally drink alcohol free beers or ciders for the taste, as I always enjoyed that.
That’s awesome, thank you for sharing this! I wasn’t getting drunk either but I was drinking almost every night. Realized I was heading down a dark path, happened to hear a Joe Rogan interview where the book “The Easy Way to Control Alcohol “ by Allen Carr was mentioned, read it and haven’t had a drink since. Literally lost all desire for it.
Weight: Still hanging around 191. Been bouncing up and down a bit, which is fair considering I haven’t exactly been the Velocity Diet poster child these past few days. Turns out “perfect adherence” is harder than Instagram makes it look.
Reality check: I’m working on making this sustainable — something that keeps me moving forward without making me want to gnaw on the dining room table.
The upside: This has absolutely reset my appetite. I’m legit craving nutritious whole foods now instead of the drive-thru, frozen junk, or whatever ultra-processed mystery calories I used to inhale. When chicken and rice start tasting better than chips and cookies, you know the blender has done its dark work.
Takeaway: Even without perfect execution, this experiment is a win. My taste buds are rebooted, I feel better, and the scale is holding steady instead of creeping upward. Progress isn’t always linear — sometimes it’s just learning to prefer spinach over snack cakes. Plan to adhere a bit more strictly for the last 10 days.
Regarding sustainability, you may appreciate this article I wrote
Basically, some days, I’ll replace the shakes in the middle of the day with a VERY lean protein meal. Achieve similar macros as the shake, just with a different source.
