Congrats on the exam!
So why are you quitting - because it makes you sick? When I was doing (beginners) gymnastics class one of the guys had to go and puke. As a rollercoaster and fun fair ride enthusiast I know for a fact that going backwards on a ride is far more nauseating than going forwards. I guess that also applies to gymnastics. Maybe it was all those back tucks rather than the handstand forward roll that did it (the last one was just the straw that broke the camel’s back).
Anyway, sorry that you are quitting because the vid is inspiring. I haven’t done a class since around May or June time - initially it was the foot injury and now it’s money. I’d like to have another go but I lack the grace you and Nadia have. Me doing gymnastics is like an elephant doing dressage.
matty: thanks! sounds like we’ve got similar FF teams, did you sit Spiller too, and count your lucky stars you didn’t need the 40 points he put up? I’ll talk to a couple people to see what we can do about combining our DL form to create the most epic DL known to man.
Nadia: You could totally do a giant in the strap bar without being able to cast hand stand, and in my opinion, you don’t need to wait for A before B in this case. Just get your tap swing going good and let it ride. Shift your hands at the top and keep your head in.
I would love to get myself into a strap bar, I’m still dying to swing some giants and don’t trust myself not to peel on the regular set. And, I was totally thinking about doing a straddle back, and in my mind I popped it to hand stand and it was glorious. But I promised the owner I wouldn’t “bust my shit” so I didn’t.
As for 315, you read my mind. 2012=the year of 3 plates (do you hear me Frenchie? I fully expect you in on this race as well!)
Mainy: Thanks
I intent to squeeze as much Christmas cheer into the next 4 days as possible, I am a big flurry of tinsel and powdered sugar.
Masch: Mom mode suits you, that was a great pep talk. And I’m such the alarmist, I probably will get back into the gym…I’ll just know what to steer away from. And honestly, I’ve always considered myself to have bulky muscles…and have envied soccer players legs. But I have given that some thought, whether muscle build comes from years of training, or if I was geared more toward gymnastics because I was naturally more muscular. When technique failed me, I could power through something with my muscles.
Koubs: A video of you in a gymnastics gym is all I want for Christmas. ![]()
Snap: That’s one of my favorite parts of this game right now is playing around with what works and what doesn’t. Solid advice, now to get my butt to get on board with that.
Deja: I saw Topanga on some talk show and she was trying to sell some really cheesy thing…I was all disappointed, she had such potential. sigh
Austin: According to Santa, there was a 3 week wait on the belt…but soon as it comes there will be pictures and DLs with it. Until then, I’m glad you’re patient
I’m happy the Packers lost because…well, I hate the Packers. I’m a Bears fan living in the thick of the land of Dairy, and Monday mornings were getting obnoxious. What with the Brewers turning out to be decent last year, I needed this state to be knocked off it’s pedestal a little bit. It’s Bears v. Packers this weekend though, and yea…it won’t be pretty.
Cal: Thanks! I’ll probably retract the quitting statement and go back…but yes, the hours of puking tend to steer me away. And forward movements have always made me nauseous, I could never do front walk overs without getting woozy. Fast movements seem ok though. Elephant doing dressage…I’m not entirely sure what that is, but it made me laugh.
Wow, turns out I’m starved for conversation that doesn’t revolve around shoulder pathology.
Yesterday: still not feeling well, went to Yoga
Today: STILL not feeling well, went through some stuff but called it early.
Giant circuit of: (4x20)
KB swings
Over/Unders
Push Ups
Face pulls
Push press
Chops
HS roll ups
The end.
was planning to hot 315 this year but spent a lot of time working on my squat - I’ll make 213 the year of the deads.
it’s on sistah! ![]()
You know its funny, sometimes after a big thing is done - an exam, a vacation, a big project - I feel a bit shitty too. I think its the bodies way of saying, “ok, now take it the fuck easy!” lol. It reminds me a bit of the warrior-diet philosophy. Under stress the body is alert and energized, but when things calm down, the body can relax and recuperate.
Charge those batteries, girl!
Well teachers always, always get sick during the holidays. Same principle.
Thanks ladies. Charging, underway.
My Christmas wish for all of you wonderful folks:
“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.”
Merry Christmas!
damn you and these quotes have me tearing up like I just watched Steel Magnolias!
Have a great holiday!

Totally! We NYers are fucking soft! HAHA! Sentimental folk.
Have a wonderful and restful holidays, Lula!
Merry Christmas Lula! Hope you have a very joyous time with family and friends!
I agree with Masch and Cal. This is probably just your body finally seeing a small opportunity to relax and repair some of the minor damage that comes with high stress situations. Hope you feel better soon!
Merry Christmas ![]()
Matty-replace Steel Magnolia with A Very Brady Christmas, and I am totally on board.
Thanks everyone else, hope you all had a great holiday! Mine was wonderful, I finally got grandma to teach me how to make lefse, the little ones kept melt-downs to a minimum, and I was able to get some pretty solid training in. Here’s todays work:
Warm up stuff

55x5
65x3
75x3
80x3
90x3
65x10
**these weights were wonky…the anytime by my parent’s doesn’t have a bar and the ez-bar weighed in at 18#, so I think the scale was off. Is it bad etiquette to bring my own bar?
***SS MPs with pull ups (10, 5, 5)
Accessory:
5x10
dips
high face pulls
db press
Band ERs
high incline walking 15 min
Also, today I turn 29. Like every other 29 year old in the world, I am planning on hitting 3-0 the strongest, hottest, and best I can. Here are my goals. In the past I’ve made the mistake of not setting my goals high enough, I don’t plan on making that mistake again:
Training goals:
*Compete in PL meet (6/12)
*DL: 315
*Squat: 280
*Bench: 210
*MP: 140
*Physique: to look awesome (130# in my mind, but I’m focusing on performance, and how my ass looks in my jeans-so I’m not going to kill (read: starve) myself for a number)
Life:
*Make my last semester of classes my strongest
*Learn to speak Italian (more on this later)
*Be a better, kinder, more loving daughter, sister, friend, human being
