Masch: I love the term kindred spirits! And I’ve identified with a lot you post re:body image too. And thanks! That workout was a little off because I had to bunch two days together shakes fist in frustration at the school gods! I’ve basically taking workouts directly out of the 5-3-1 book, adding in heavy conditioning on squat/pulling days. Not only am I drinking Wendler’s kool-aid, I’m trying to guilt it into going on a date with me so I can force it to come up to my apartment for a “movie” and then have my babies picturing what my babies with the kool-aid man would look like*
and ha! Restaurant impossible! That Irvine knows how to get shit DONE!
Yonkey: It must be the school stress…I think that combined with the back ache does it. I never realize I’m stressed until the rest of my life starts going to shit. Thanks for the training love!
Cal: I just checked your log and you are the QUEEN of super setting! I’m doing my best to do what I can through the holidays, that slope is too slippery for me! I don’t’ have your extreme dieting will power.
Mainy: Thanks–training seems to help me keep it together when school gets crazy. It helps me to feel like I’m in control of SOMETHING, and is much cooler than say, an eating disorder or alcoholism.
PP: I’ve been meaning to comment on your posts over in the food thread, you seem to be so knowledgable on the dietary aspect I’ll be having some questions for you. (And btw, I seem to remember what your legs look like, which is to say, fantastic!) And you’re right about the measurements, I’m the same everywhere but actually an inch smaller in my hips. That makes me nervous about being able to take off some weight on top of the muscle addition.
Pixie: Thanks for the support lady! Ah, Armageddon is a tear jerker every time!
Hall: Thanks lady! That’s my hope! If only I had the $$ to hire someone to tell me what to eat, then I really could just mindlessly melt away.
Matty: You sure know how to sweet talk the ladies, thank you!
And be fair warned that my lifting advice consists of “Yea matty, dat ass is looking FINE!”
***Did some light conditioning this weekend. Week 3 is coinciding with finals week which should mean I’ll have lots of excess frustration to burn off. I’m ready to check some end of the year goals off mah list!
This is the WORST kitchen I have EVER SEEN! I would not serve anyone food made in this kitchen.
Shut it down. Shut it down now!
Training: Millies-all hopped up on coffee and green tea extract
25 minutes max incline walking
MP:
Barx5
55x5
65x3
75x1
85x1
100x2.5x2 (+1.5 rep PR)
**I got anxious and wanted to try for my 100#x3 today. I made it about half way on the third rep and it just wouldn’t go! I still feel pretty good about this thought and might have another go at this in a couple weeks.
Pull Ups: My warm up sets were flying up so I went for my end of the year challenge today. Like the MPs, also a fail—but actually, i feel kind of good about these. I will hit this in 2012.
10
8 (if I’m generous)
5
Accessory:
10x3
Dips
OH DB press
Plate raise
Curls
ITY
VIDEOS: Horrible angles but I had to document the attempts. The top half of me gets cut off on the pull ups so it’s basically a video of my butt going up and down for 20-someodd reps, but i cross my heart my chin is up there or i didn’t count it.
MP (check out my awesome posture. it’s so weird that my back hurts when I throw 200+ pounds onto it, isn’t it!?)
Pull ups
pull ups look awesome. same with your MP. kudos for cleaning it from the floor first. any plans for winter break to ease your stress?
Awesome work! it may be harder since your cleaning it from the floor but what kind of grip are you using for the millies? A false grip added 10lbs to my MP it forces you in a way to align the bar on your wrist which in turn created a lot more pushing power (for me anyway).
INTERDASTING Millie grip talk!
And fawk a hundo?
That is officially hella strong.
I <3 U.
OMG! You freaking beast!! Great job on those pullups!! Woot woot!
I’m freaking panicking over here, no joke. And I’m not sure whether taking a little rest in between reps will help or hurt me…for me I think the momentum is partly what keeps me going, which I guess is a bit of cheating…meh!
100 MP is ridic! You are super strong, girl. Can’t wait to see how you blow 2012 out of the water.
Well, I see nothing wrong with how you are wearing your wunder unders. But I also understand the importance of the weight on the scale. If you are eating clean and its not working, could you be eating too few or too many calories?
And, I want your Military Press. That was awesome!
Awesome press! My goal is to put 100 pounds overhead someday.
Lula: Pullups look great. Sorry you missed your goal. Are you limiting your rest periods?

Yep! MEeeeeee tooooo!
2012 official MP Goal.
Nice log you got here. Get in on the competition train! You’ll never be 100% as strong as you want, or feel perfectly ready to compete - so compete soon and get a feel for what it’s like. I recently did my first comp, didn’t give a crap about my weight class (I was three pounds over the 220’s, and competed as a 242), and had a hell of a good time.
Damn strong MPs, and that squat vid cracked me up where the guy behind you was doing less weight and cutting them higher.
pro tip: hat backwards for MPs and pullups, you don’t have to move your head as much to get it out of the way.
Taking PW by storm, SO MUCH TEXT!
koubs-thanks, man! Ugh, sadly no exciting plans for break. I was hoping to get west so I could spend a couple weeks snowboarding on actual mountains, but it doesn’t look like that is feasible this year. I’ll be sticking around here working, lifting, boarding on our non mountains, and cross country skiing (fingers crossed we get snow).
Matty-thanks! I saw in your log that you’re doing some OH pressing comps, so any and all advice appreciated. I’m using hook (thumb wrapped around the bar?) grip…I’m going to try false grip to see if that makes a difference. I’m determined to get that third one up by the end of the year.
Hallowed-a hundo is yours in 2012, I knows it.
Mim: What did one volcano say to the other volcano? I lava you!
Masch: You have a way of making me feel like a rock star every time you’re in here, thank you for that! Regarding the pull ups. grabs your shoulders and shakes you YOU. GOT. THIS. Really, you do, you are trained, you are strong, you are light! I thought hanging rest would help too, but every time I did I was all like, 'things are starting to BURN!!" So IMO, momentum is the way to go (NOT cheating). Also, I like to imagine that I’m an ice cream cone getting dipped into chocolate every time I go up and down. I can owe at least a couple reps to that, so give it a shot ![]()
Kimba: Thanks! I’m not overly concerned about the number on the scale, but as you have mentioned before, it is a slippery slope and I don’t want to get caught on it. I have been diligent about recording my eats the past few days, and I am coming up between 1200-1400 calories, so it’s possible that I’m not eating enough, which is SO counterintuitive to me.
Nadia: Rest periods is the piece of the puzzle I could never figure out with these. I kind of just did another set after I got bored standing around. (I’m a chronic over thinker or under thinking. this case the latter). I’ve actually been thinking of contacting your man Harry to get this under wraps. Turns out my plan of just doing lots of pull ups most training days didn’t work.
Dani: You too have the 100 MP in you. Go and get it!
SCJ: Thanks for stopping in. I want to compete for sure, it’s just deciding January or June…I’m starting to think January again, but lots of other things to consider, we’ll see. As for the hat, you’re totally right! But I train early in the AM…too early for make up, yet I’m too vain to go sans hat. I’ll maybe suck it up next time ![]()
I CAN’T BE STOPPED! A couple of days cooped up with my books and I go nutso on here, apologies, really.
I reached code Spano this week. For those of you not of the SBTB generation, see below:
Training: It’s been happening. Highlights include a couple 225# squat singles, and 145# bench singles. DLs tomorrow.
Health news: I got blood tests done last week because last time I got my hair done, my girl told me that I lost a lot more hair than usual, and I might want to look into it. My results showed that my white blood cell count is low. The combination of coming off of a semester of pathphys + endless amounts of BS on the internet has left me a big ball of worry. At night time, anxiety>logic, so I’ve been having my night time anxiety attacks again, so it’s not been fun
I’m SURE it’s nothing, but I still can’t help but be worried.
On a side note, on my walk home from my exam today (rocked it, btw), I walked by two little boys playing football in the yard. There is seriously nothing better than the sound of kids laughing.
crap, is that my internal clock talking?
ok now I’m done.
OH MAH Gawd!!! You did NOT just code spando SBTB!?
I just fell out laughing at the gym.
You have officially ruined my gym MURDA rep.
Yes… SBTB gen here!
Um, reviewing your lifts… they’re all my goal lifts.
so, you’re my strength goals =D
is it sad I remember that episode… lol. sucks to hear that you are going to see some real mountains this winter. I remember you eyeing Bridger. to be honest, there is jack shit for snow right in this State… a little depressing. actually, really depressing, as I love going up the old mountain trails in my truck and seeing white pine trees. good to see you fitting in gym time during finals. stress is like cocaine - a downer. and it has physical effects. relax during your break. I feel you on the sleep issues. wish I could tell you a magical pill, but nothing is working for me.
oh no, code Spana!!!
LOL!
Hope all is well though. you on xmas break now?
awesome on the millies - remember if those ever stagnate to give yourself a break and start them in a rack rather than cleaning then from the floor. you do lose a little energy this way.
reminds me when my deads were stagnating - I would be lifting the bar and weights up everytime to move the plates around rather than slip a little plate under the setup. Less energy spent on the details = more energy for the main parade.
kids - it’s not just hormones: it draws us back to a time when things were simple. I’ve said it before; nothing zens me out like coloring or playing barbies with my nieces for a couple of hours.
