Love the quote. Hang in there. You’ll adjust.
Mustard is delish! I crave it sometimes…just not straight from the bottle. I went on a Franks Hot Sauce kick that lasted a year…it went on fuck all.
Both are zero cal though! For whatever thats worth these days.
Mustard is really good for you! Since it has that magical property turmeric(curcumin) in that is good for inflammation.
I may start taking the straight form if I can find it.
Hey Cho!!
Tiny, kewt, and obsessed with ever increasing poundage? Okay, you’ve got my interest…
Just discovered your log (never really looked at the PW forum before); inspiring and entertaining.
Re: training
Have you read The Perfect Rep? Plazma™ Brutal Workout Formula for Enhanced Growth & Recovery – T Nation Biotest Never grind another rep! It wastes CNS energy.
Also, if you like 5/3/1 that’s great, but I woulda thunk 5 x 5 is better for you (a la Stronglifts).

Jitterbug Perfume. One of the strangest and best books ever.
i really enjoyed jitterbug perfume as well. i’ve been meaning to read it again, actually.
changes in schedule can take a while to adapt to. i’m still adapting to my increased working hours. i have no idea how people work full time and still have time / energy for the gym. and families and stuff, too…
i just got a multi-vit that has quite a lot (apparently) of iron in it. i think it might be helping me a bit… i like mustard too, but not quite as much as you, i think. i never thought to eat it from the jar lol.
I’m guilty of eating mustard by itself some times too. I love hot stuff but I’m also eating more of it for its anti-inflammatory benefits. I even drink chili tea which I basically just boil cut up chilies in water and drink it. Capiscum addiction to the max.
Ooh, I might have to read that. I have an interest in perfume - I really got into it at one stage and used to hang out on Basenotes, a perfume forum, where we’d discuss scents old and new and swap samples. The problem was I kept having to try the different scents people were raving about and spent about a grand one year on different perfumes alone. After that I left the board and just stick to the 30 or so different scents I cannot live without. Heh.
Gah! The neglect! Be glad I’m not responsible for putting you into an old folks home.
I am just coming off of a glorious week of summer break and am gearing up for another semester. I took some time out of being in the gym, mainly due to gym closing and then being away (annnd my head needed a break. lula=cusp of becoming a nutcase and needed to step away). I decided to play for the last two weeks and feel charged up and ready to get back into it. I did do lots of out-of-gym conditioning, runs with my pup, and even got to play with sleds, tires, and ropes (oh my!) at a friend’s gym. Basically, doing what felt intuitively right, and having fun with it.
Let me catch up–
koub-i’ve got myself a notebook, with numbers in there so i can’t claim "meh, i can’t do math in my head and i don’t know how much to lift so i’ll just put this much on’…and then bitch and moan when i can’t squeeze out the assigned reps.
cal-i used to hate spicy food until last year I decided it was something I should like (i refused to be excluded from indian food. and wasabi). I started adding spice and gradually grew to like it. (i went through a cholula phase last year, hence the name)
nadia-thanks! i need to get over to the tattoo parlour to catch up
dash-Franks is something I have yet to try…I foresee it in the near future. and i hate to admit it, but zero cal counts in my book.
mim: magical properties, you say? i’m in! and haiiii!
JFT: well hi there, and welcome to pw! Thank you for all of the knowledge too…that book looks like a riot! A ‘genius waitress’ being hit on by a lesbian coworker, figuring out who is sending mysteriously sending beets to her house? A ‘climax’ in New Orleans? And according to Wiki, the main message is to lighten up. Sounds right up my alley! I’ll put it next on the list. As for 5x5, I need to do more research into it before deciding…but with the wealth of knowledge over here with the 5-3-1 I may stick that route… (plus I just slaved over figuring out all my %ages, and ugggg, that hard work has to be worth at least a go-around, yes?)
alexus: I know! I don’t get how people do the full time gig/family/social life/workout thing either. I get to return to magical student land where I’ll have lots of mornings available so I can avoid that for at least 9 more months. I hope you are adjusting to your new schedule. You’re on the cusp of spring/summer now, right? That’s got to boost the energy a bit too!
minimal: chili tea sounds way extreme! I don’t think I am quite there yet, but mustard sistas, ftw!
cal: just 30 perfumes! ha! that’s crazy. I got this perfume sampler for christmas last year and really like picking and choosing which to put on in the morning, but that’s 6 perfumes, no way my indecisiveness could sort through 30 each day. Which is your favorite?
she lives! lol. welcome back. figured you needed some you time. I remember the insanity of Athletic Training in college. going to every practice/game for the football team, and then trying to study… wasn’t putting in the physical punishment, but the time killed me… and that was my second year. glad you are working out the percentages. im sure with your dedication, you will go far with the weights.
Ahh, feels good to be back to it.

**Felt pretty good today. My left low back is twingy, but I think things are just tight. Mobility work and foam rolling needs to start taking a larger chunk of my time. If only it wasn’t so borrrrringgg.
Although I’ll miss the free time, I’m happy to be back onto a schedule. This is going to be a good semester. Good things are going to happen, I can feeeeel it.
“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

This morning was an easy 3 miler, followed by my final fantasy draft. The 3 miles went fine-I had my way with lulu when I was home last week (or lulu had it’s way with me, not sure which), and wore my new wunderunders today. Because of this,I was obviously speedier and in general more awesome than usual. I expect the wunderunder effect to remain
The draft went well, I’m feeling good about my teams-but everyone is at this point, right? I’m excited for season to start tomorrow, fall is by far my favorite season…football, apple picking, cool morning runs, hoodies…sigh.
Anyway-I’ve gotten stuck in the past on my goals for training. I still am finding I need a competition/race to work towards, but I can’t figure out what to jump into. For now, strength goals are following what Eric Cressey mentioned in an article as his “solid foundation of strength.”
1.5x BW squat=200#
1.75xBW DL=235#
In addition:
100# MP
10x3 pull ups
**for whatever reason, I totally avoid training my chest—so I need to putz with the dbs to figure out where I am and where I’d like to be.
**also, weight wise-I’m sitting pretty at 134 and will be happy to stay here, along with fitting into my jeans (4/6) and generally looking hawt.
**other-life wise: Stop being apologetic, removing the word “sorry” from my vocabulary unless it is actually warranted. Explore my outdoorsy side more—regardless of having a group of peeps to do this stuff with or not. To be more open to new experiences, people, situations.
That’s all for meow.
Running around all mimbly-bimbly is more fun in cool morning weather, yes. With a hoodie on even. ![]()
Good on you for enjoying your mini vacation, and good on you for getting back at it. The importance of goals we’ve discussed already, glad you’re setting some concrete numbers. Now the fun is breaking the difference between where you are and where you want to be into bite-sized chunks and eating the hell out of them. That sentence was only slightly awkward. laugh
You ain’t lion about the bomility work being boring. However! It’s worth it. I always know when I’ve neglected my boring business because my body starts to hate me.
On the other hand you can do a whooole lot of rolling and stretching while you’re watching TV. Not that I do that, of course.
I have a client who throws out ‘sorry’ like it’s candy at Halloween. I gave her three of them then started adding more conditioning at the end of workouts- she rarely says it once these days. On a personal note it’s taken me awhile to find the line between being (what seems to me) to be rude and being confidently but politely assertive.
p.s. Pray tell, what is wunderunder? ![]()
Wunderunder, my friend-is an amazing pair of crops from lululemon. look, there’s an entire blog posting about them!
I am probably building them up too much, but honestly-I put them on and they were the most comfortable pair of crops/tights ever. And they were quite cozy to run in as well. I’m also fairly certain they are going to make me DL like a mothafucka on Friday.
I needed to set some goals so that when I meet them (i’m sorry…eat the hell out of them! or wait, I’m not sorry?!), I can justify buying another pair ![]()
And yo, updates on the lifts/calves/skwatz? how goes it?
hell, if they help your DL’s, I might go buy a pair. ahahahahahaha
I like your lifting and your life goals!
Heh. They look nice but I don’t have the body for tight pants like that. I run in big, baggy trackies and lift in yoga pants. They cover a multitude of sins.
Strength goals are impressive. Think I’ll go hide in my log now. Heh.
good goals.
Kimba got me to buy a couple of pairs of Lulus this summer. Comfort level is pretty awesome.

My DL and front squat #s are essentially the same, I’m not sure if this says more about my squat or my DL? I’m going to go with 50# as my 90% for DP presses, as I think I could have eeked out 3 at that weight, and I believe wendler said that repping out 3=roughly 90%. I get kinda freaked out trying to max out sans spot, seeing as how I prefer to keep all of my teeth.
Does anyone else have a problem nipping out their shirts during training? It’s like I have two blueberry pancakes stuck to my chest–with one blueberry in the middle.
I feel like I’m not doing much with this 5-3-1 business, but i’m going to trust it.
lol, a good supportive sports bra does the trick for me. Not if I forget and wear a regular bra though. yikes!
How long you’ve been doing 531 now? and what were you doing before?
