Muscle Memory

I’ve been ill with a virus for just over a week - I couldn’t eat anything that would stay down.

I went back to the gym today to carry on TBT, and my weight has gone down from 211 lbs to 201 lbs. My strength has obviously decreased too. Any tips for how I can get back to where I was ASAP? Does anybody know anything about muscle memory?
Thanks for your time

I’m not all that informed, but I think you’ll bounce back pretty quickly. I definitely think muscle memory exisits. It’s much easier to put muscle back on that you’ve lost from detraining than put ‘new’ muscle on.

First, calm down. Give your body about 2 weeks to adjust and get over the illness and drink as much fluid as possible. Get back in the gym as soon as you feel better and your body will regain anything lost. Muscle Memory is your body’s ability to regain muscle tissue after a lay off or an illness like you experienced. Many believe it to be an adaptation to the sarcoplasmic “bag” surrounding muscle tissue which is why fascial stretching holds some merit as far as possibly aiding in msucle growth…as well as bulking up in my opinion.

I don’t know if there are any ‘tricks’ that would increase muscle memory. Slowly get your weight back up to where you want it, and by that time your strength should be back as well.

You probably feel real bad and weak right now, but this will go away very quickly. It wouldn’t surprise me if in a couple of workouts you started to come around and feel much much better.

No reason to do anything goofy in this situation. Slow and steady will win this race

Hmm. That’s interesting stuff. Also, keep in mind that you haven’t lost 10 pounds of muscle. You’ve lost some fat and a lot of water as well as muscle. Professor X. and sasquatch seem to have given you good advice to me. no rush-you’ll bounce back fine.
