Mr. Olympia 2011

Phil Heath is 31. I’m also calling bullshit on the 290lbs.

Last year he was 240lb in contest shape. It must’ve been a typo.

says phil heath has been pro since 1999? is 35 years old? and weighing 290lbs…
everything there is wrong lol

he isn’t 5’10, I saw him in real life and can confirm what it says on his site - he is 5’9

290 off season - possible, end of day, etc …

contest more like 260 but whatever, he is awesome regardless of stats

what I don’t get is, why don’t they have a big display during the weigh in so it adds a bit more of a spectacle to it.

there are lots of photos online during the weigh in but it is just them looking down at the scales, be nice to have a huge 290 displayed next to them

Phil 5 9 -246ish

Jay 5 9 -266ish

Kai 5 8- 258ish

Bodybuilding is still an underground and under-appreciated sport. Proof positive: not one major news outlet had a story about the olympia, to date. Most people did not even know such an event took place last night. Something is definitely wrong with the promotion of the sport.

The olympia itself was not an impressive production, and the prize money was fucking ridiculous. I would not go through decades of training for that compensation … wait, I have trained for years, and my compensation is far less, never mind …

HAHA.

Just makes me respect these guys more.

From what I understand, don’t powerlifters PAY to enter a meet?

I mean 200k isn’t chump change, but it says something about the people that do this. They aren’t out making NBA money.

I noticed Daryl Gee wasn’t in this year 202 class competition.

Anyone know what’s he up to now?

you can’t discount how much the sponsors, appearances, etc … pay, which is way more than the prize money

in any case, yes relative to other major sports only the top 20 or so in bodybuilding can afford to live comfortably and not have any side jobs for sustenance

More importantly, what happened to Roelly Winklaar? Did he decide to take a year off?

Just think about the compensation they award for the 202 division. Top spot got $14k I think?
Nuts.

Anybody else figured the top 6 would look exactly like this? After watching the prejudging, this was my guess, and it looks like it was the judges too. Still would have liked to see Jay hold Phil off for one more year before letting him take it, but Phil clearly deserved it. Jay showed marked improvement during the finals over the prejudging though.

Only things that sort of surprised me was that rockell only placed 9th and Brandon Curry placed as high as he did for his first O appearance, though in hindsight i probably shouldnt be surprised by that. He looked phenomenal. Could be top 6 in the next couple years.

As it stands now the only person i can see giving Phil a run for his money any time soon is Kai if he can absolutely nail his conditioning down. Even still, Phil would probably need to be “off” for Kai to take it.

I think people just don’t bother looking into these type of things because most of these bodybuilders don’t look aesthetically pleasing to most people.

I think synthol is the problem, not tearing the bicep…

Jay said he tore it 3 weeks ago but the bruise only showed up yesterday…

But bicep looked fine 3days out…

I dont know how much can be done to fix synthol in 24 hours?

I want to see Rockel next to Dexter… imo Rockel is better
I still would go with a tear.

His left bicep has always had better peak, shape and fullness than his right so it doesn’t make any sense to put synthol in that arm. If the bruising was on his right arm I would believe synthol. I don’t think such an experienced competitor would make a mistake like that with SEO’s the day of the contest.

With all the media-driven backlash against PEDs in baseball and football IMO there’s no way in hell this sport gets media coverage considering that everyone is unquestionably on steroids.

It sucks but that’s the reality.

Ya it’s crazy the difference a day makes. After friday I thought Heath had it in the bag then when Jay came out staurday I was oh shit I don’t know…

I agree Phil would have to be off before Kai or someone else takes it from him. Has Phil ever been off though? I don’t think so. Kai is older than Phil aswell so less room for improvement.

I think Phil is gonna hold it down until Evan Centopani is ready to take the reigns in a year or two.

I dont think Kais conditioning was all that bad and if you look at how much the cameras focused on him in the coverage, he got hardly any exposure compared to everyone else - thats something I was disappointed about.

Phil will always be disadvantaged in the mass category, which is why he’ll have to bring his best every year to keep that Sandow. Probably a 60% chance Jay comes in SICK next year and takes the Sandow back.

I agree, i wouldnt be surprised if Centopani takes the Sandow in 2 years, i think Phil has a good chance of keeping it next year though, even against Jay. Though i have no doubt that in a years time Jay could make the improvements needed and come in looking fuller during prejudging and be able to take it back again.

JAy will need a repeat of 09 to get it back.

Phil’s muscle looks rounder and fuller right now. And Jay’s back had no detail, like a flat canvas, at least on Friday.
