Re: Plate fear
Pretty common, in my experience. I’ve seen a big football player, o-linemen I think, absolutely smoked a 395 bench. They put four plates a side on there to get 405 and he got horribly crushed. 100% mental. Personally, with o-lifting, I’ve found that approaching every rep the exact same and lifting the weight the same every single time helps with that, because then it doesn’t really matter what weight is on the bar, you’re going to do the exact same thing anyways. There might be more to it than that and it probably doesn’t work for everyone but that’s my experience anyways.
Re: Benching twice a day
You probably had some sort of CNS activation from the first workout. Again, speaking from o-lifting experience (both personal and anecdotal), if you do the same exercises/movements in both workouts, you’re generally a little more switched on for the second one, provided your energy levels and diet are in good enough shape to support it. Feels good though.
