Mr. Hammond, the phones are working...

Very nice benching there lady. Tell your mom that isn’t a very motherly thing to do.

Well i’m sure she kicked your butt, but i bet she’s got your back though. Good benchin as well.

Funny story, i used to play my dad one on one basketball. As soon as i started to get get better than him and almost beat him. He quit playing me. Kinda short though but it’s got some humor in there somewhere.

I always get anxiety the day before I have an “off/recovery” day at the gym. I don’t know why. I mean, who gets stressed out about having to take it easy!? My brian has no faith in it’s ability to handle boredom.

So anyway, I decided instead of calling it an off or a rest day, since that sounds SO lame and SO boring, I will start calling it a “get fucking strong for tomorrow” day.

And yes, it might be a tad wordy, but at least it makes me feel semi-pumped.

Lifting news:
Get fucking strong for tomorrow day

Some weighted chin ups
+25lbs
2,2,2,2
weight off

bent over row
4 x 8

My 100 rep facepull challenge
WHICH BECAME
110 reps of non-stop facepullin’
So awful.
So rewarding.

that sanding plate holding oblique thing, fuuu, I forget what it’s called. Side bends maybe?

Ab wheel roll outs
2 x 20
then 5 pausey holdy ab wheel things
AND my feeble attempt at sanding ab wheel roll outs. They probably looked stupid as hell, but I didn’t fall on my face and I feel slightly closer to being able to do one properly.

Glutey bridgey stuff

So excited about deadlifting tomorrow.
If I can get a heavy 1RM on film with NO UGLY FORM, I will post it in the personal training records thread.

Dream come true, it would be…

Ta ta for now!

found you, Jenn~

great job on the lifting -

Maybe shorten it to “GFST days”?
Training is looking solid.

Oh whatever!!! You’re day before ball blasting workout days are still great!!

I laugh becasue I’ve been there! Maybe your wildness will go away…maybe it won’t! Irregardles always impressive with those damm chins!!

OH!!! And i wanted to thank you too! Since you moved your log over here, there’s lots of info I’m picting up from other logs. Your log is a sorta haven for lots of shared tips and stuff anyways–so thank you!!

oh yeah! And do you feel you get a lot out of the face pulls? I suppose since every bench workout seems to have that as an accessory on the programs I’ve checked out they must be good to do…blechh

I just HATE pulley work. I feel like an eighties fitness model headband perm chick when I walk up and start pulling on cables and shit.

^^^^^^^BRUTE POSTING BONANZA^^^^^^

Lol.

My mind hurts now… lol.

This is a kickass log…but where are the vids!!!

Alrighty everyone!!

I have posted a couple new videos in my “shitty deadlift” form thread in the powerlifting section. Please check out if and when you have the time.
THANKEE

Today was hard. With my from tinkering I have lost some deadlifting strength. But I think that ugly ass shit I was doing before couldn’t even really count as a deadlift, so I feel I am kinda starting from scratch. Went in with my numbers and EEK GADS, I had to adjust my maxes mid cycle (mid workout actually). I know that is a 5/3/1 sin, but I have no idea what my proper form DL max is, so ya.

DON’T BE MAD VTBALLA. I know he’s a 5/3/1 purist, haha.

okay
5/3/1 Deadlift day
165 x 5
175 x 3
195 x 1 ← Added belt
165 x 10 standing on some (skinny) bumper plates. WHY? I realized I am actually slowest off the ground. My lockout is stellar. My weak spot is the begining with this new found form formation, ha.

BBB Squats
100 x 10
100 x 10
100 x 10
100 x 10
100 x 10

Uhh Good mornings. High rep/light weight cause I am really working on doing these here arch back good mornings. I think that will help me build a good deadlifting arch back, mmhmm.
3 sets of 12 with an embarrassing weight, thanks.
Lying leg curls, 5 sets of some weight

Hanging leg raises
25, 10, 8

Few chin ups

Done

NOTES:
How does everyone feel about me doing deficit deadlifts for my BBB assistance work on my squat days?
YAY/NAY?

Good mornings:
I don’t know if I still like these, maybe I am bored with them. I want another good deadlift day assistance choice that will help me along in my journey.

Life news:
I miss playing perfect dark with my brother’s friends.

That is all.

LOL, vids will remain in the shitty deadlifting form thread (PL section) until they are officially no longer shitty.

I don’t know what to tell you about my last 7 posts.

Tired of gms? Are you able to do any type of ghr setup? ghetto style or otherwise?

I’d stick to deads on dead day. Especially deficit ones, and I’d stick to low reps on those dudes thinking form form form the entire time.

As to your deficit deadlift question, I am not sure. I don’t think I have ever done a set of them higher than 3. For me, getting into position for them is a bit tedious(more so than a normal deadlift) and I don’t think the lift lends itself to high rep work all that well. That being said, if you can get set up for each rep without any problems, I don’t really see a reason why it would not work. I’d keep the weight light though. If maintaining proper set up for a ten rep set gets problematic, then perhaps cutting the reps down to sets of 3-5(or however many you like) would be a good option.

As non-hardcoar as it sounds, paused leg presses are not a bad option here either I think. Just set your feet on the leg press plate the same way that you set them for your deadlift stance, then do the leg press with the same range of motion that your legs go through on a deadlift with a pause at the bottom. Try to mimic that initial push/heal drive.

As to the other good deadlift assistance choices, I’ve liked RDLs, GHRs, reverse hypers, high rep band resisted good mornings, and all manner of abdominal work. I see that you already do a lot of rowing, so perhaps variation in that department might help.

Hope this helps.

Perfect Dark you say?? The old school N64 version that was kind of sorta a squal to Goldeneye?? I played the hell out of both of those when I was a kid. AH, memories.

Addendum: I dispute the description of your videos. They are not shitty. You were simply asking for advice.

Spock, getting the deadlift form down is kinda like hitting the end of that elusive hose. Sure you look a little silly at first(look at my videos, heck i still look silly) but then you get it. I think you need to relax and laugh at the mistakes, learn from them and move on. You may be unhappy immediately after but look at it objectively afterwards and calmly reflect on what happened and make the necessary changes(still learning this myself but i know it helps).

<Yep i’ve got a grin looking at that gif, it is kinda funny.

Seriously you are doing fine. There is some really good advise in the other thread. I concur that the best thing you can do is focus really hard on a few of them, watch alot of good deadlifters and find some similarities in what they do and copy them. Then practice, practice, and practice some more. That also entails several types of learning, visual and hands on learning just to name a few. The more types of learning you can use the easier it will be to learn it. Maybe find a way to make the cues compliment each other to work synergistically and sortof flow together could help as well.

okay end novel, but i leave you with a quote that your desire to get stronger reminds me of…

“The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.”

-Vince Lombardi

^^ So does that mean you don’t think I should try sumo? heh…
