Thank GOD for an action movie with not only no horrendous computer generated effects, but also no wires, harnesses or stunt men.
The dude who stars in this movie is one fast, athletic, acrobatic, flexible, gymnastically talented mother.
I am hoping people will go and see this movie, and then demand that Hollywood (and others) will stop relying on too many over the top effects for fight and action choreography. Did anyone see “The Tuxedo” with Jackie Chan? The whole appeal of Jackie Chan aside from his comedic antics was that he did crazy stunts and took risks and performed wonderfully choreographed fights. Then in this Tuxedo movie, someone gets the brilliant idea that they’ll use over the top effects so suddenly the guy defies the laws of physics and can basically fly.
Too much bad CG out there. It makes sense in Lord of the Rings, it makes sense in the Matrix, but that doesn’t mean that it belongs everywhere. Too many movies I watch where suddenly it actually looks like a cartoon. Like an actual cartoon that somebody drew. Barf!
However, I feel that the concept of putting him in an action movie that relies heavily on special effects for the action is a poor one.
I certainly don’t expect him to be able to keep doing what he’s done so brilliantly for so many years indefinitely. He can do toned down action without the insane stuntwork, he can do straight up comedy, he can try things like this. But Jackie Chan enhanced by Matrix-like effects? The magic is lost!
Anyway: Ong-Bok, great stunt work. Light on the plot, heavy on the “Cool!”
I saw it. Tony Jaa is absurd. Seriously. And so is the movie. My friends concluded that it was written by a thirteen year old boy. The plot was out of this world. Like, you can’t follow it because half of it is in orbit. But it gave me a muay thai boner.
I’m sorry but if you couldn’t follow the plot you must be a thirteen year old. In order to understand the plot you have to you have to READ the subtitles, maybe that was the problem. But regardless it was some of the sickest fighting that I have ever seen. The moves that Tony Jaa pulls are just incedible. If you are lookin for a source of inspiration this is it. When I am lifting I just think of Jaa jackin that guy in the side of his head with his knee and taking him out with one shot. Fricken awesome, a must see!
I just saw the movie today and it pretty muched sucked ass. Jaa had a couple of really cool stunts like sliding under the SUV and walking on the ‘bad guys’ shoulders. Everything else has been done before. The fight scenes were horrible.
