Looks bananas!

I was a fan from his last one. That guy is the most impressive “movie fighter” I’ve seen on film. Jet Li is now a second.

Dammit PGA, stop posting your fucking Apple links, I can never play those.

And yes, I’m too lazy to go find the trailer in a format that I can watch!

There’s a lot of Ong Bak I missed; much of the motivation has to do with Budda statue worship and a theology I know very little about.
Outside of a very hokey pedicab (is that what those are called?) chase, it was a great movie. I loved the instant replays of some of the more dangerous or spectacular stunts. The elbow strikes and flying knees alone are worth watching the movie for.

If you can get past the foreign language (there are subtitles) and bad acting of nearly every other character, the fight scenes are pretty decent for an obviously low budget movie. He does most of his own stunts if not all. It seems like they are better funded for this one. I have nod oubt that with enough exposure, this is the guy who will take Jet Li’s place when it comes to movie stars and fighting. (Yes, I could have said Jackie Chan but he seems to like comedy too much for my taste)

i watched a film similiar to this called “tom yung gung”. the acting was okay but the fight scenes were awesome. i really think people died making that film. it was that hardcore. the moral of the film was “don’t mess with that dude’s elephant”.

For a minute there, I thought they’d made a movie about Larry Niven’s Pak Protectors… no such luck.

Tom Yum Goong is the Protector; the Protector is the US/UK title. I agree that this movie is crazy, I’m just surprised it took them over a year to release it in the U.S., especially after Ong-Bak became such a hit here.

On the Ong-Bak DVD, you can also switch the audio language to english, so it is a little easier to follow. Some of the acting was not the greatest in the world, but the fight scenes were excellent. I’m a sucker for fight movies anyway. According to the website, the Protector is out Sept. 8th and I am there!

if you’re going to watch Ong Bak, be sure to have your mute button handy- the girl’s voice in it alone is enough to make you do a flying knee kick over your coffee table into your television.

good fight scenes tho.

I thought the samething. Oddly enough I was thinking last night how they should make a movie about Protector.

Any Niven books you recommend?

All of them?

Actually, I didn’t like very much the second and especially the third book (or is it the 3rd and 4th… the two last ones.) He should’ve stopped after the 1st one.

I like his short stories and essays collections (N-Space and Playgrounds of the Mind), there are some very interesting ideas in those.

One of the best Sci-Fi book I’ve read is his collaboration with Pournelle on The Mote in God’s Eye. A lot of very unique ideas about Man meeting his first alien race.

I’ve read a few of his fantasy novels, but didn’t enjoy them as much as the sci-fi ones.

Thanks.

Tony Jaa is pretty impressive, its cool that he doesn’t use wire work and all that CG crap. Tony Jaa Punches Mad Peeps - YouTube

Its pretty cool to just see him perform.

I can’t wait for this. He’s the most athletic martial arts actor I’ve ever seen. Ong Bak was great aside from the non-action scenes.

thats an old film, i have seen it ;D!

I was wondering what was taking so long to get Tom Yum Goong over here. Saw the trailer on Friday when I went to see Beerfest with some friends. I was pumped…really looking forward to this one.
