Molly Galbraith Does 155lbs for 54 Reps

That is kind of how I feel when new posters come here and post up vids to powerful women. I think partly it is because they don’t take the time to read any of the threads and realize that it is a bunch of training logs. It rubs me the wrong way, too. But then it seems to rub others the wrong way that it rubs me the wrong way, so hmm.

I think Oro nailed it actually with her thing about the context. When you know something of the person and the things they have overcome and the hard work they have put into what they have done it makes it so much more meaningful than if it is just a random vid of some unknown person and their accomplishment.

The original poster seems to have vanished. Wonder if he knows Molly at all and was hoping he could lure her back to posting here or whether it was some random vid he found on youtube…

Wrong.

If you had known me, you would have known that i didn’t just go out and do shitty lifts to make a video to make fun of her. You would have seen the videos the first time they were posted, or the second, or the third. You would have known that last year i got a huge wakeup call about how shitty my lifting had been, and that i spent several months relearning everything when i got to EFS. you would have known that i have a huge tattoo on my back, which would have been visible during the “pullup” portion of the video i made, IF i had just gone out to make it to spite nikki. and you would have known about all the other times i admit when i fuck up.

so.

quit trying.

i never said it did, i try to not act that way, and i didn’t treat nikki poorly. another thing you probably don’t know is that Nikki and I came to an understanding, and that I’ve offered to recruit some of the EFS guys in Florida to coach her sometime.

I won’t clog up Molly’s thread with any more of this nonsense, I just really wish you’d think before you post sometimes.

Effing impressive.

I would be on the ground sucking for air at 30. At least I think I would. I’ve never tried anything for that many reps but it sounds painful.

I’m glad to hear you two came to an understanding. You seem like you’re still pretty upset that I took offense to how you approached her in that thread. I’m sorry that it’s colored your opinion of me and I hope you develop some perspective of where I am coming from in both of these threads. Clearly I am thinking, but it’s just not the same way that you do and that makes you upset. I’m certainly not the only one who thought you came across poorly in that thread. It looked like half the nation stopped in to tell you they agreed that it could have been handled differently.

It’s awesome that Nikki’s going to train at EFS. At least that whole deal ended positively. Thanks for that.

left to right, top to bottom, words come together to form sentences.

ITS CALLED READING.

I have OFFERED to RECRUIT some of the efs guys in FLORIDA to coach her SOMETIME.

now lets analyze that, since you have misunderstood, again.

i have offered- means she didn’t say yes. in fact, she said that the first gym i mentioned was too far of a drive.

to recruit- means that i would be willing to talk to one of the guys and say, “hey a girl i know from the internet needs some help, do you have time in your schedule to show her some things” it’s not a given. they could say no. but i dont know if they would, because i didnt ask them, because nikki didn’t say she wanted it.

in florida- the phallic looking state in the southeastern portion of the US. Not the heart shaped state in the northern midwest, called Ohio, where the EFS gym is located. Therefore, she could not train at EFS unless she drove about 19 hours, and if somewhere in florida is too far of a drive, i don’t think she’d be willing to go to ohio, either. and that’s assuming i’d ask dave if she could train at the compound. i wouldnt.

sometime- means not every time, means not on a regular basis, means ONCE. which is why i didnt say “from now on,” or “for a month,” or anything else indicative of the plural.

nikki is not going to train at EFS.

this is why i ask that you think before you post.

Jesus. I figured there were probably some EFS people in Florida you knew who you’d agreed to hook her up with. I’m just trying to say, based on your word choice “…Nikki and I came to an understanding, and that I’ve offered to recruit some of the EFS guys in Florida to coach her sometime.” that it sounded like your new understanding with nikki was partially based on you helping her out by hooking her up. How am I supposed to know, given your tone, that she refused? I’m trying to compliment you and you’re attempting to insult me. The internet is awesome.

On another note, since we’re already off-topic, I’ve decided to work on my reading skills by checking out articles and researching training for judo. Do you have any ideas about that? (trying to turn this de-rail into something productive)

@Molly, I guess the feeling is mutual then

I found the info about the challenge on beyond the whiteboard and might try it out later on in the week. For me, high reps on DL is pretty much anything over 3, so I’m kind of curious to see how many reps I could actually do. I’m also curious about what it would feel like to not be able to walk for 2 weeks…

I remember seeing a Crossfit vid of a guy doing 10 sets of 10 deadlifts supersetted with 10 push-ups, non-stop. I gave it a go (I was using 50kg - 110lbs) and I got it done but it nearly killed me. I bet my form was shitty, too. Molly’s form is tight right until the end. That’s something I aspire to.

Thanks for mentioning the site. I know nothing about CF so didn’t think to look for a site. It is 155lbs for all women; not adjusted to body weight like I thought.

I say you go ahead and try it and then let us know exactly how much it sucks. The most I’ve done is 30 at 135 just playing around and 16 at 225. They were both super yucky.

I didn’t really know where to look either. Just figured it out through a little google searching. Normally, I would have expected that the weight would be adjusted for BW but they don’t really do that much for crossfit. I think its assumed that all the women weigh about 110 and the men 150. lol.

Depending on how I’m feeling, I might try it on Wednesday. Should give me enough time to recover before squats on Monday. I’ve done higher rep DLs when I did 5/3/1 and had a program in the fall that involved high rep squats but it’s been a while and never involved that many reps. This will definitely suck.

Wow. In my book, when someone apologizes you accept the apology and move on. Honest mistake on Iron Cross’s part.

Regarding repping out like this, if it’s not adjusted for BW, it seems silly to me. But maybe that’s cause I’m still the little one on the sidelines waiting to be picked by a team. The most DLs I’ve ever done is 15 @ 135. And that was out of anger. Normally I never do more than 5. And that feels like cardio. So 54 reps? Sheesh.

And timed right?

double sheesh!

[quote]kpsnap wrote:

That’s crazy talk.

So, taking BW into consideration this would be about the same as me doing 225 x 54 in 2 minutes. Riiiight…I’m not doing that.

edit: it would be closer to me doing 185 x 54 in 2 minutes. Still not doing it.

Ouro - I was 168 and pulled 155 for reps… if you are 135 and want to use % of BW (which makes the most sense to me…) you would use about 92% or 125 lbs. You could also choose to scale it as a % of your max. My max DL when I did it (back in January… I had only been back to decently heavy lifting for a month or two) was probably 290-300. So you could use 50-55% of your max and pull that for reps… but body weight makes the most sense to me. =)

Alexus - infamous? UH-OH! haha kidding! Thanks for the kind words! Like I keep saying, I hope to get back on here occasionally and catch up with everyone! What’s the reader’s digest version of what you have going on? Health issues? Injuries?

@Kristoph - Oh… if I was going to a college gym to pull 405… you’d better believe there would be cameras! =) Yeah it was kind of disappointing. On one level, I see what they mean… but come on! Nothing worse than a sore loser!

@Heavy Triple - yes! I know Rachel! She is very cool! She and her friend were already in the weight room wanting to lift heavy stuff… so that was half the battle and a big part of the reason I wanted to help them! A little form tweaking and they will be animals in the weight room! =) I will keep working on my lifts and maybe we (sbmart and I) will make a date to come train at the JC soon!

Iron Cross - I can tell you feel terrible and it really was just a misunderstanding. In fact, I can totally appreciate your position of trying to stand up for the other women on the site. Like I said, I was tired and cranky and my ego has been more than a little bruised as of late, which led my to my smart-ass comment. I shouldn’t have made it a big deal either. As far as I am concerned, water under the bridge. =) I appreciate the compliments and trust me, we can all learn from one another. I’ve been around a little while, but the more I know, the more I realize I don’t know SHIT! But seriously… the more you learn, the more you realize you are just scratching the surface of what there is to know. I definitely apologize for my part in all of this as well.

@VariteK - Thanks! yep! I definitely wanted to quit partway through, but like I mentioned, all the cheering and encouragement kept me going for sure! =)

@Buckeye - haha yep! Anything over 5 reps is cardio! That’s what Nia Shanks and I like to say! =) Believe it or not, I was only sore for 3-4 days afterward. I felt like my CNS almost took more of a beating… weird, huh?
Let me know how it goes!!!

@Cal - Wow that’s intense! Yeah my form has gotten so much better and I think that’s partly why I could get to many reps and part of what contributed to me not being so sore for that long afterward. The load was distributed pretty evenly through the whole set and I didn’t start pulling all with my low back or anything mid-way through. Thanks for the compliment!

@Ouro - yeah CF doesn’t really adjust for weight. There is a lot of body weight stuff so I guess they feel like it all evens out in the end. The weighted stuff is a bit easier for the bigger/heavier people and the body weight stuff is a big easier for the smaller/lighter people. Those are two impressive pulls though! =)

@BG - haha yes! I think CF does assume all women are 110 and all men are 150! Too funny!!! =)

KP - agreed. Does seem like an honest mistake and yes, they should scale for body weight. I feel kind of ridiculously being considered “stronger” than other people when I out weight them by 30 lbs! But, being bigger and taller makes other things harder for me… so I can see both sides of it.

haha the weight that the guys used in that challenge was 225. The winner got 70 reps. Disgusting, right? =)

I don’t think I’ve been 110lbs since I was 13.

I was 110 until I landed a job at Dairy Queen at age 17 and started consuming 32oz blizzards 4 days a week. lol. Coincidentally, the one girl I do know who’s a crossfit fanatic is 110lbs.

Molly- Thank you. I really do feel pretty bad about it. So when are you coming back?

  1. What a disgusting weight to be.

damn Molly - it’s not just the strength I’m impressed about but the mental fortitude to do them. There is no way in hell you could motivate me to do that. Maybe a paid trip to somewhere… but just to try?? hellz no!

bravo
