World Record Bench

Sorry if this has been posted before…

Anyone seen the footage of Gene Rychlak’s 1005lb bench press?
(careful, the audio is hecka loud)

5 bucks says that dude’s not human!!!

\m/

I’m surprised how much shoulder movement he uses; it was almost more of a shoulder raise than a bench press.

In a high performance shirt, that is the most efficient way to bench.

Can’t wait to see what big gene has in store for the arnold in 8 days

He is not lifting at the Arnold.

HE’S NOT?! If that’s right then Shawn go out there and win the Superheavyweight Bench. I’ll be there rooting for ya.

I’ve heard it had to do with his shirt, but since I don’t know the man I can’t tell you that for sure.

I’m also pulling for Latt to win and break that 900 barrier. If anyone deserves it, he does. Although I do not know him I know I have used the information he has posted and written on the net. He gives respect to everyone, even the complete beginner and myself being a relative beginner (only 1 meet under my belt) an advanced lifter giving advice and encouragement can mean a great deal.

Thanks Latt, and good luck destroying, 900…920…950…and beyond.

Thanks!!!

I hope I can pull it off.

Lattimer,

Is Mike Miller gonna be there? Just wondering how close he is to 1000 in your opinion. Jim Parrish seems to think he’s the next one to get there.

I read the Under the Big Iron article about him on this site a few years ago and he was at 755 and training only bench, now squatting 1100 and gunning for 1000 bench.

Anyway, are you as crazy as those two guys (Rychlak and Miller)??

Mike is coming to town but isn’t lifting.

I have it from a reliable source he is not lifting at the Arnold, although he is still listed on the Arnold website.

That clip makes me feel very very weak…

Mike’s best bench is 805, I think he is about ready for 900, 1000 is still a way off.

I train a little differently that Mike or Gene, but I would definitely say I am just as crazy.

I have hit 925 in the gym, unfortunately, I haven’t gotten it on the platform yet. My strength is up big time, I think I can go 950+ if I get it right.

Well, we’re all behind you man! I know that wherever I look on PL threads out there, you seem to be the “peoples choice.”

I heard (I think Jim wrote) that Mike was working with him trying to get his shirt to the next level. Didn’t Gene go from 805 to 1005 in less than a year?

Also, apparently Mike doesn’t do much heavy raw benching anymore, if I’m reading correctly.

So, I can’t find any good pics of you on the net. I probably should have asked if your as ugly as those two guys.

Shawn how does number 2 all-time sound? lol. It is well within your reach just don’t go around gettin a big head like Gene. Good luck!

Gene was benching 965 more than a year ago, so that couldn’t be true.

I have a suggestion: you guys benching at the Arnold make sure you get good pics of yourselves when you’re on the platform. Then submit them to the staff here to post in the Powerful Images section. Make sure you include who you are and what your numbers were. Screw this “we don’t post pictures of powerlifters” crap. I think it would be great to have some of the members from this forum pics be on the home page. Now that would be inspiring.

Nobody really wants a pic of a fat bald guy on the front page. Not gonna happen.

2 things:

  1. I’d love to see pictures of powerlifters as the powerful image. Male and female.
    Oly lifters, Strongmen/women…all that.

  2. I’m not sure how a bench shirt works, but I was wondering why his wasn’t zipped up the back, wouldn’t that decrease the effectiveness?
