These initiatives existed when Trump was president the first time around.
Also, hiring air traffic controllers isn’t easy. I believe that after initial training, which has a very high failure rate, it takes a few more years of on the job training to get certified. There has been a shortage of them for years. And I don’t think there is much they can do about a helicopter deciding to hit a plane. These politicians should just keep their mouths shut until we have the facts so we then know what the problem is and can work on a solution. They are all attention whores. It would be great if politicians held themselves to the same standards the rest of us need to in order to stay employed.
One more thing, air traffic controllers were among the lazy federal employees Musk and Trump wanted to either convince to quit or fire even though they are understaffed and overworked.
Could have hired these people.

I don’t doubt that there were DEI initiatives in place that may have impacted the number of controllers but a shortage would still exist because there is a lot that goes into the process particularly with regard to bureaucracy. The government moves slowly.
What if the controller in question was a totally qualified, straight white male? In other words, not a DEI hire? It doesn’t mean DEI practices are not an issue, but it would mean it wasn’t a factor in this incident. What if it had nothing to do with the FAA and was a result of pilot error on the helicopter?
Then there is this, from the article: “Still, the FAA as a whole has suffered staffing issues since pandemic-era mass layoffs in 2020 from which it has yet to recover.”
DEI may be part of the problem but it’s not the only part. Keep in mind, the suit was filed in 2015, so had a good number of the plaintiffs been hired, they would have been among those who were laid off in 2020. This points to the shortsightedness of those in government. The pandemic was not going to last forever so why lay off people who you will end up needing in a matter of months? Now you have Musk wanting to get rid of federal employees in large numbers without regard for what their specific agencies do or how well they are staffed.
Yeah, I’m not sure what you are going on about. You said it was hard to hire air traffic controllers. I posted an article showing they turned away 1000 highly qualified people for DEI reasons. Take away the DEI and there are at least 1000 more qualified air traffic controllers.

You sound like the people all a’twitter over how Musk was going to run Twitter into the ground because of all the massive cuts he made, and all the “invaluable” employees that were quitting because of how terrible a manager Musk was.

I don’t have a twitter account so I have no idea what goes on there. All I know is the fact, which you won’t deny, that Musk wants a significant reduction in the federal workforce. I’m saying you need to look at each agency individually to see if cuts are needed and if so, how many. You can’t just randomly fire people.
Allegedly. I’m saying that even if true, it doesn’t mean it was a factor in this incident. And for those who suffer from ZDS and TFS (Trump Fellatio Syndrome), if you look at my posts on this thread, I am no fan of DEI and have not only seen how it negatively impacts everything it touches, it probably harmed me personally as well, but it’s hard to prove when it happens. But you just know.
I would just like to see people wait for the facts before drawing conclusions and creating narratives.

Sure, but they were initiated prior and carried over. Likely didn’t make it on to his radar. The fact they existed is the issue up for discussion, and if we’re going to add pinning the tail on the donkey it wasn’t Trump. He is, however, reversing these policies as a forward looking point of view.
This is side stepping the concern that maintaining DEI class ratios led to a pipeline shortage, which directly antagonized the issue.
This is another manipulation of available information. They wanted to replace under qualified DEI hires with better, merit based hires.
If you have to lie, twist and generally manipulate to hold a point, you don’t have one.

This is a possible outcome of that but we would need to see the details in the lawsuit and evidence to see if this did indeed happen.
It isn’t. Musk and Vivek stated they wanted to reduce the federal labor force in general, they did not mention specific agencies or jobs.
Good thing I don’t lie. Having a differing opinion, or in my case, saying we need to have all of the facts before passing judgment, is not lying. I would also say that if one were to accuse another of lying, he should post the lie otherwise, who is lying?
And this is ZDS. You need to relax, it’s only the internet; you should be able to survive someone you don’t know having a different (and if you really read what I have posted, it’s not that much different) opinion.
