Missing the Old Darden Forum

I was PMed on the old site by a couple of members saying that Turpin was on an abbreviated training facebook page. My understanding is that he’d had enough of the old forum and HIT forums in general.

Yea I’ve felt like Turpin many times. I really don’t care so much about HIT but rather it’s following Darden that I enjoy. If or when Darden leaves the internet That will end my participation in forums. Other than Jones and Mentzer , who was just a clone of Jones I’ve never really found any other site or forum or trainer worth paying attention to.

As Scott has said, he used to be able to do pull-ups when he was younger. My recollection from conversations on the old forum is that, between then and now, he had a little run in with cancer, and I think had some chemotherapy. Assuming my recollection is correct, that combined with age might explain why pull-ups are now more of a struggle…

Do you participate on any welding or fabrication forums?

Those are focused on Arthur Jones’s wedding and Mike Mentzer’s welding of amphetamines with Bodybuilding drugs lol

What do you mean by “worth paying attention to”? You’ve used that phrase a few times and I’m interested in what you mean by it.

Do you mean you don’t believe you’d learn anything about getting bigger and stronger from them? Or that you don’t get any entertainment out them? That it doesn’t scratch your “collectors itch” for more Jones and Darden information?

I used to go to several different forums but over time I found them more trouble than they were worth. Now days I mostly just look at YouTube and that too is chocked full of idiots, ha ha!

Probably a little of all you just said. I’ve been reading about this stuff for many years and what I keep seeing is basically the same old stuff or something too off the wall for my liking.

So, if you don’t want to read about the stuff you already know…and you don’t want to read about stuff that is different from what you know…what exactly are you interested in seeing?

What do you care? It’s obvious you are just looking for something I might say to fuss about. Take a hike!!

You are very brave on the internet

I wonder what Arthur Jones would think about that

Who cares what Arthur Jones might say ? Go away!
Scott

You do, my friend

There’s nothing new under the sun.

I’m very much the same as yourself with some of this stuff. I’ve bought and read every Dan John book, subscribed to every news letter, and listened to every podcast up to about episode 50. I only stopped because he’s now producing content quicker than I can consume it. I think it’s the “collector” in me wanting to come out.

Have you read the one he did with Josh Hillis? If so, how do you rate it? I’m curious how much of it is Dan vs Josh.

Yep, I own it on kindle.

My memory of it is that it’s very much a diet and light exercise program designed by Josh Hillis, interlaced with mostly relevant essays by Dan John. The essays may not all be reprints exactly, but they aren’t a million miles off. The diet and exercise program are geared very much towards the out of shape, middle aged market and, while the advice seems sound, I’m not sure how much value you’d get out of it beyond entertainment.

Entertainment is purely why I read about lifting: I don’t feel there is much to learn at this point. In that regard, Dan is quite entertaining, but when I saw it said “with Dan John” vs “and Dan John” I pumped the breaks on the kindle buy. Might still hold off then. Thanks!

This very much feels like Dan doing a favour to his friend than a genuine collaboration.
