I wasn’t a part of that site but I checked it out a few times and one time I saw an old dude that Darden trained that was absolutely jacked and he had a mustache. Who was that guy?
Hmmmm? I’m sorry but thats not ringing a bell but I’m forgetting things faster than I’d like these days. I’m sure it won’t be long before I forget there was a Darden forum.
Scott
I tried to find Photos of him, but the site is totally gone. I guess he didn’t make the jump
Who’s that?
Turpin was a no BS kind of guy who didn’t nessesarily follow HIT to the letter as he’d swing kettle bells etc but he’d constantly post videos and pictures of his workouts and he built some substantial strength and lots of muscle. A mans man!
Scott
Ah man he sounds great. I would love to hear his opinion on this forum. Such a shame he isn’t here.
He wasn’t one of those pretty pretty boys who worked out just so he could prance around on the stage flexing , I think he worked in the prison system so had to be tough enough to throw some people around if need be but he was very friendly and open with no chip on his shoulder. He was built like a rock.
Scott
Does anyone else remember a jacked older guy with a mustache that Darden might have trained? I’m drawing a blank ?
Scott
Turpin is giving me Chuck Norris vibes, I doubt the mods would move his posts.
He quit the old forum before Darden switched to this.
Scott
So he actually quit the forum instead of just threatening to leave, Go Turpin.
Big Jim Flanagan?
He’d’ve fit right in, no prob at all. If I remember right, he was trap bar deadlifting 400+ or 500ish for reps, safety bar squatting, and other non-traditional HIT work. But yeah, solid well-rounded dude.
What’s your deal with bodybuilders?
I have no problem with bodybuilders, I’ve followed bodybuilding for 50 years but I know the difference between a pretty boy and a guy who builds big and useful muscles.
Scott
This is like the third time I’ve seen you mention guys who “dance” on stage and flex lately. I figure a guy who gets on stage and flexes is a bodybuilder.
And not to be rude, but haven’t you been training for several decades and still been unable to perform pullups? I am sincerely not trying to mock you, but you have a lot to say about the usefulness of other peoples’ muscles, but how “useful” are yours?
Hobbyists mocking dudes who go through a full prep and put themselves on stage to get judged are certainly an interesting demographic.

He thinks they’re pretty.
Some like the leather daddy bear mode types, some like 'em buffed. Or the sparkly little pixie dudes.
What ever floats man. I ain’t judging.
Would you judge if someone was interested in the Danny Devito body-type?

Asking for a friend…
Unlike many on here I have never bragged about what I’ve done. I can’t do chins now but in my hey day I could about 10 chins . In the past I trained HIT for some 30 years and at the same time I ran many triathlons consisting of, One mile swim , 50 or more bike ride and 6 mile run. I’ve run marathons and on and off the job I’m the go to guy to move heavy things. I lift heavy boxes and items like engine blocks , heavy cases etc etc with no trouble. In real life I’ve never found a lack of strength to perform anything I ever wanted to do even at 69. How much can I bench or chin? Who cares, that never comes up in the real world.
I do like watching bodybuilding , some of my best friends were competitive bodybuilders but I realized long ago that I had no potential to go anywhere with it. My real enjoyment in lifting weights is the good feeling I get during a workout. Not much compares to that good feeling whether I’m making gains or not.
