MIsinformation I Got Today

So I was at GNC and was talking with the employee working (a petite female) about protein. She told me that I can only use 28 grams of protein at a time. I gave up arguing with stupid people for Lent so I was like “Oh, right.” WTF though? So if I eat a large piece of chicken and drink a glass of milk in the same meal, it’s a waste?

You realize it’s just a job to her and all info she gets is from GNC’s training. I doubt she cares enough to know.

If I had given that up for Lent, I would have died by now.

It’s interesting that GNC carries plenty of items that are more than 28 grams per serving though, and would have someone still spouting this advice.

28 grams seem so arbitrary? It’s really 27.68594 grams anymore and you’re pissing away money.

kinda like eating 0.9 banana?

Actually, there was an article on here several months ago that showed something along these lines to be true. If I remember correctly, a study was performed using egg protein that showed the body can only absorb about 25 grams of protein at one time. I think it said you just piss the rest out or something like that. But that was for egg protein, not whey. I have no clue if the same holds true for whey protein.

What prompted the conversation was I was talking about how the RTD bottles of wheybolic Amplified protein wreak havoc on my stomach. They have 60 grams of protein and the directions are to drink one bottle within 30 min of training. She said, you have to drink that in increments. Me:“Oh, well no wonder. I was doing it all wrong.”

I’m sorry if I come off as sounding like a bit of a dick, but you (and a lot of other people who have read and tried to quote this article) really misunderstood what the article says. The article says that amounts above 20 grams of egg protein did not increase the rate of protein synthesis. This has absolutely nothing to do with digestion of the food you’ve consumed, or how much of what you consume is utilized, this just means that the rate, how quickly or slowly something is being used, will not be effected, not the overall consumption of raw material. You still need to provide the raw material for your body to produce new tissues, just because the rate of production isn’t increasing doesn’t mean that more protein can’t be consumed or wont be used, it just means that eating more wont increase the rate at which protein synthesis occurs.

My experience with GNC is that they’ll just try and sell whatever they can to you whether you need it or not. They’ll also tell you whatever bullshit they can to get you to buy it. For all you know they could have an incentive that day to sell out of the rest of their stock of a certain product, so their going to tell you whatever they can to sell out of it as fast as they can. I don’t believe a word anyone in there says.

If I worked at GNC and someone was looking for a colon cleanse I would totally recommend SuperDump 250.

My bad.

I like to say stuff like this just to see if people will believe anything I say. I’ve found that most people will believe you if you speak confidently. For example:

Me: “Did you know that the anus is not naturally brown but becomes that color due to the overuse of emulsifiers in modern diets?”

College Girl at Bar: “OMG, I like totally did not know that! You are so smart.”

Bartender: [nodding, as if in agreement, before suddenly stopping with a quizzical look] “Wait, what did you just say?”

Maybe she was playing you like this.

I just quit my GNC gig. But I can tell you that a couple of you are partly right. The company sends a monthly training letter with assinine advice and ‘training tips.’ Deadlifts build muscle, but don’t go heavy or you might injure yourself. That kind of stuff. It’s like reading Men’s Health, but they push supplements more that diet foods.
Also, sometimes it’s time to sell a particular product. Just get it out of the store.

I quit 'cause I was about to be fired for not meeting quotas on the GNC brands they have to sell. That’s why you might walk in one day and get pushed on Brand M, and the next time you go in the guy says all I take is AMP. It’s all bullshit, and online ordering will save you a lot of money. However, I never found out why Biotest isn’t sold at GNC.

I think everyone is completely overlooking on important question: Why the hell would you give up arguing with stupid people for Lent?

They sell Spike and HOT-ROX if I’m not mistaken. I’m pretty sure those are the only Biotest products sold outside of the online store.

I’ve seen Alpha Male and TRIBEX at a few Vitamin Shoppes. Much cheaper to get it directly from Biotest though.

Surely by Dr. Lowery, I remember that article too. Couldn’t find it though…
