Went to GNC to pick up some Whey Protein to make my shakes and this guy walks up and talks me into buying a bottle of $44.00 whey protein called nitro or something to that affect. He said that it had more grams of protein than the regular GNC brand.
Then on the way to the checkout he recommended these vitamins that he said was way better than centrum multi. He said that centrum multi vitamin was kind of a watered down version.
Long story short, i walked out there with the bigger bottle of whey and these 15 dollar vitamins.
Given that I haven’t provided you with specific brand names, are there whey drinks that have more protein than others? Is 44.00 a decent price for whey? and also…the vitamins…is centrum a bad idea?
Cheack the nutruition facts for the protein. I think Grow! Whey here on this site has 22 (maybe 23, unsure exactly) grams of protein per serving, 76 servings in a container. It sells for 33 bucks, so you have to be the one to compare the amount of protein in each one.
I don’t know about the vitamins. I just take a multi vitamin.
It’s called Nitro-Tech Protein shakes. It says its 24x powerful than whey. This is greek to me cause I dont even know what whey is lol. All i know is its massive amounts of protein. This is the label on the protein shakes from nitro-tech. I just dont want to get something meant for bodybuilders when i’m just starting out. Let me know what you think.
Serving Size 1 Scoop (28.5 g)
Servings Per Container 32
You got ripped off. Theres nothing special about what you bought, not saying that they’re bad or anything. The only thing those supps are better for is emptying your wallet. After much trial and error, using MANY different brands, I now only use Biotest supplements (sold here at the store).
They are higher quality and often more affordable. IF I need to buy something quick to hold me over, I tend to buy from Optimum Nutrition.
good to know though. I did get 20% off because of the membership thing but damn. I’ll just go with this stuff for now til it’s gone then i’ll start ordering from Biotest. I was actually going to get Grow! whey from here but I just though everything was pretty much teh same.
One more question. Flameout…Is it the same as say… Nature’s Own Fish Oil caplets?
Looks like you took it in the pooper on that one. Don’t worry, though - 99% of us get fucked at least once starting out.
Just buy your whey from this site. It’s the cheapest I’ve seen around nowadays (even compared to the Wal-Mart crap), has free shipping, and mixes great. Not to mention it’s unflavored, so it’s easy to get down.

And stay away from GNC. Bodybuilding.com is another good place to look for your multi and other supplements (shit you can’t find on this site).
Will do. I’ll stick to ordering from this site from now on.

Thanks
P.S. I’m a total newb
Do yourself a favor…check out the Biotest store…better product…and no out of shape salesperson
One more question. Flameout…Is it the same as say… Nature’s Own Fish Oil caplets?
Flameout is much more potent than any other fish oil caps on the market. Theres more DHA and EPA (the good stuff) per serving than any other brand. It also has added CLA (another good fatty acid). Flameout is super fish oil.

LOL. Thank you for bringing that down to my level. Damn abbreviations get me
I let GNC rip me off for years before I found this wonderful site. Grow! and Metabolic Drive and fantastic and the ONLY shakes that I have seen significant results from. Plus they taste great. I had a bottle of NitroTech before and all I have to say is good luck getting that down. I believe that outside of the macronutrients you listed that is a list double the size of that that lists crap after crap of stuff in that blend as well. Stick with a good whey+casein blend and then a simple whey blend. Flameout is also a necessary supp for a newb and even a full blown vet. You will find nothing of its quality anywhere out there. Lastly I would suggest Surge from here as well. Great post workout shake. Takes the guesswork out of what to eat after you lift hard.
You said you don’t know what Whey is? Not that way is bad for you, you need to investigate everything you put in your body. Thats common sense. The supplement industry is less regulated than say pharmacy industry. You need to read about and understand EVERYTHING you put into your body. Read articles on protein and understand what you are doin…
On the specific topics, you got “F’d in the A” per say. Nitro-tech isn’t horrible, but for Whey, you were paying $15 for the brand name alone. There isn’t too much difference among whey protein shakes, besides if its contains dairy, sugar, and amount of carbs. The amount of protein too. Example, you bought Nitro-tech, and if you compared it to say Nature’s Best Isopure you would find it has no dairy, no sugar, no carbs, and like 50g protein. Just read the nutrion facts.
Now many people on here are pumping up Biotest products for one reason or another. You should try them, but also try other brands if you don’t like Biotest. For whey, I buy in Bulk. Its a TON cheaper buying 10lbs of powder (ON has 10lbs for roughly $90) instead of buying 5 jugs of 2lbs (which will cost you like $130+)
Flameout is good, but if you find something as cheap with the same amounts of DHA and EPA you will be fine.
Overall, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS research before you put something in your body, experiment, and often the most expensive isnt the best in the supp industry…

Not to hijack or anything. But what does the unflavored grow taste like? I tried doing a search for it but couldn’t find that much.
I remember buying some crappy unflavored whey a few years back, tasted like absolute shit!

If a whey protein claims it does more than supplement your daily protein intake, its usually crap.
Yeah I figured that much. Theres like 50 million different types of whey that they claim is beter than X brand. I’ll stick to Biotest
Or you can just calculate it yourself baised on the Nutritional info on the back. Many of the ones that claim they have more protein just have a bigger serving size. It usually ends up about the same price +/- a few pennies per gram of protein. Your best bet is to buy one that taste good unless you need other supplements that look for one that contains the other supplements that you are looking for. Biotest has been the best tasting protein powder that I’ve had, just have to mix it a little more.
Don’t be down on yourself you probably just bought a bigger container so you don’t have to go back as frequently.

It tastes…bland.
I mean, you’ll definitely be able to taste it in the water, but the best I can describe it as is “bland”.
Maybe people who have never tried protein powders before wouldn’t like it (because I wouldn’t say it tastes “good”), but I really don’t mind the taste at all and find that it is easy enough to mask when I make shakes out of it (not that whey + water is a big deal).
