Minor Labral Tear

So I’m hoping you guys are willing to help. I have what the doc say is a very small labral tear. Small enough that all three ortho docs I’ve talked to (one being the ortho for the ohio buckeyes) all say its so small that surgery is not recommended if at all possible. I have not been able to do much therapy due to work and new insurance. But the one time I did he said I have great mobility. My only issue is that the doc don’t seems to care that. I powerlift.

Therefore I don’t know weither they feel I can heal enough to powerlift again. So has anyone ever had a really small labrum tear that successfully powerlifts now without issues or pain? They said the tear is small enough that most people who lift over the age of 40 probably have the same tear but don’t even know if. I’m just looking for a light at the end of the tunnel.

Just really want some advice from people who have experienced this

Give time for tear to calm down, strengthen and improve dynamic stability of the cuff. Avoid overhead pressing

I have a torn right labrum, can’t even throw a baseball or football now at this point. It’s sometimes are to get a good contraction on my right side with shoulder, chest and tricep movements. You know what movement patterns hurts you. Overhead pressing works just fine for me. Banded pull aparts I feel like have really helped alot just to stabilize it. Lemme know if you have any questions.

Hey, i dont know if what i tore was my labrum, but it really helped to test out all the different movements and compare it to the other shoulder. I know for a fact that keeping the supporting muscles strong (and the tendons/ligaments) etc. will do as much as you pretty much can to prevent reinjury. That being said, from what i remember reading when i went through that crappy process of shoulder injury, dislocations (dont know if thats what caused yours) tend to reinjure easily compared to a lot of injuries. So baby it, slowly build up ANY movements in the shoulder that have been compromised (be creative) and itll probably help you to some degree. People always say that cartilage doesnt heal, but its not completely true. It heals a bit at the periphery(blood flow to cartilage is low, so deeper tears tend not to heal at all), and if its minor, it may resolve on its own if youre gentle for a couple months. But seriously, it is important to make sure that you work toward making the weaker shoulder become close to the strength in all movements as the strong shoulder.

its a ball and socket joint, so there are a lot of movements.
lateral raises, front raises or w/e theyre called, shoulder press, rear lateral raises.
I found working my range of motion by just doing circles in both directions helpful.
I also found helpful tucking my elbows and moving my hand from my stomach past the elbow toward the maximum distance my shoulder would allow at the outside of my body (inside to outside) and then the opposite depending on the site of the injury. I dont know what thats called either. just figure out what is weak!

Hey guys thanks for the replys. My shoulder doesn’t really click or anything. I could throw a baseball if I wanteed too . The weird thing is that this injury happened to my non dominant arm. I can’t tell if its tight or what. When I went to the ortho he said that it should heal on its own and he is the same doc for the ohio buckeyes. But at the same time I’m not sure if he just told me that because I’m not some big pro or something. So I’m just worried. This injury is over a year old and still bugging me. I’ve got full range of motion in the arm for the most part. And really the only movements that hurt are when I bring my arm across my chest.
