Are you saying that magnesium in high doses generally causes constipation?
If so, I don’t see how that is. Calcium is supposed to cause that effect and magnesium is supposed to actually make you go.
Unless you meant that laxation means it DOES make you go.
Magnesium and Vit C in high doses are laxatives.
¢?¢ LAXATION (noun)
The noun LAXATION has 2 senses:
the elimination of fecal waste through the anus
the act of making something less tight
I understand what laxation means, Merriam Webster. I’m saying the way TC worded it:
"Albion’s Magnesium Glycinate Chelate (which is used in ElitePro) is the form that can be used in the highest dosage without worrying about laxation.
Laxation is a fancy word meaning that it doesn’t make you take a poop."
Sounds like:
–Laxation = not going (which we both agree is incorrect)
–Usual “worry” about magnesium in high doses is “not going”
…but I’m saying I’ve read and been told by a GI specialist that magnesium tends to make people “go,” hence there is no “usual worry” about “not going.” It’s actually the opposite: the usual worry with magnesium is that it DOES make you go.
If we don’t have to worry about “not going” it’s only because magnesium naturally makes you go, anyway.
Edit: Actually, it sounds like TC is confusing laxative effect with relaxation of (intestinal) muscle. Since bowel movements cease when intestinal muscles are very relaxed (e.g. what Immodium does), that would result in constipation.
Severe and frequent bowel movements can be caused by overactive intestinal muscles.
I would like to know, due to the added bulk from the amino acids attached to these minerals… once the minerals are incorporated, would these amino acids be beneficial in terms of replacing other amino acid sources like meat, whey powder, BCAAs, etc?

We’re not talking about a high enough quantity of amino acids to worry about replacing other amino acid supplements or protein.

In Poliquin’s magnesium supplement description, he makes a big deal about using 4 different chelates. What’s the deal with this?
Does Biotest’s mineral product have a similar composition of magnesium chelates?
Magnesium According to Poliquin:
Take 1g, spread over 3 meals, after 4:00pm
Magnesium Taurate = “calms system down” (dunno exactly what he meant by that)
Magnesium Orotate = Lowers Cortisol
His main thing is have a chelate magnesium so I don’t see anything wrong with taking some good quality magnesium chelate.
To my knowledge, Poliquin recommends zinc in the morning because it acts as an aromataze inhibitor (aromataze is the pesky enzyme that converts testosterone to estrogen). Since testosterone is about 20-30% higher in the morning compared to the evening, the theory was that greater inhibition of aromataze in the morning would be more beneficial
Of course, Mg is taken in the evening due to its sedative effects as stated
I’m not sure how much difference it will actually translate to, taking Zinc in the evening as opposed to morning. My guess is zilch. Just take it.
So did anyone else get a call last night from the very beautiful (sounding) Amanda? Dontcha just love when a woman tells you she wants to give you $18 for buying a product? At like $0.60 per day for a bottle of this stuff, I can assure you that this’ll become a staple for me if it has even half the effects other people are talking about.
I <3 you Tim. And TC too, because I feel like you were the one who hand-picked the customer service ladies

The side effect of loose stools is a function of the magnesium ion itself, not of the particular salt. Mag citrate, gluconate, hydroxide, et al are all fine laxatives. I have no experience with the fancy mag in this product, but if it contains around 250 mg of elemental magnesium it will cause loose stool.
The Magnesium glycinate chelate is the best tolerated of all the magnesium chelates. It’s the form that can be used in the highest dosage without worrying about loose stools.
I appreciate that you no longer try to reference absurd claims.
Hey snarky boy, plasma magnesium has been seen to decrease by about 10% following intense exercise and the resulting low magnesium levels have been seen to last up to, yes, 18 days. Part of it’s due to redistribution of the magnesium from the plasma pool to other areas of the body caused by induced metabolic needs, including increased magnesium in exercising muscle, while an increased rate of urinary sweat loss of magnesium caused by exercise accounts for the majority of the rest.

Yes, I got a call this morning saying that Tim wasn’t happy with the original cost of the product or something along those lines. Thus he reduced the price! That’s why I have been a faithful customer since 02. You gotta love a company who truly looks out for it’s customers. Thanks Tim, TC & all the rest of the Biotest folks!!

x3. Except I thought she sounded nice and competent–I’m sure she’s beautiful, too.
Actually, my reaction was closer to “Tim Patterson is a real person? I thought he was like Santa Claus.”
Just got my shipment in yesterday afternoon. Tried it last night in place of my ZMA. I’m curious if I’ll notice any difference in the next few weeks. I noticed a big difference when I started regularly taking ZMA but now I wonder what the edition of the other minerals will bring to the table.

I took the full recommended dose last night. No loose stools today. 1 oclock CST here.

I and other staff members have been using the full dose daily for a while now with no problems, so I don’t expect there to be an issue.
