Members Kicking Ass on a Consistent Basis

I think we need some fresh new topic in the PL forum that will be more productive than bickering over who is bastardizing 5/3/1 and what Crossfit is, so, here it goes.

Who are some members you’ve seen in these forums (powerlifting / training logs / brotherhood of iron / etc…) that, despite you not really paying attention, have struck you as making TONS of improvements lately? Also, after you name them, those fucks should honor us with some insight onto how are they kicking so much ass? Let’s keep this to people who, while not the strongest mofos on the forum (before you start posting about STB, marauder, delzathoth), but rather, people that came A LONG WAY over a short period of time. Rising stars if you want to call it.

I’ll Start

Ashylyrraku - Don’t even know how to spell it. I remember couple of years ago when I was lurking T-Nation that this kid was posting a lot, was pretty weak and I always thought was just another joke. Well, lo and behold, for the last year I have seen his numbers EXPLODE - He just put up a 600 dead, bench in the 330s (or more), steadily increasing Military Press. He has blown past people and keeps coming strong! HOW DO YOU DO IT ASHY?

Spar4tee - I remember about a year ago him boasting some numbers and me dismissing him as just another bro-tard. However, I saw some vids in his log, I see him pushing some serious weights and his strength keeps increasing. What ya doing there boy? Too much beef? Super secret training regimen? Share!

Achilles of War - I had no clue who that dude was, checked his log - he is strong as an ox! Seems to be in love with Smolov. Educate us big guy!

That’s it from me for now. These are def compliments and I (and am sure many others) will be very happy with any time you share with us guys!

YAY POSITIVE TOPIC!!!

I dunno about improvement or whatever, but can I post about people who just inspire me as far as powerlifting is concerned?

I don’t wanna be a rule breaker, Lol.

Spock,

As the only real lady shining light on our sausage-fest in the PL forum, I think you are well above rules

K I am going to list my people before you respond so I don’t forget haha

Um this guy named Frankjl or something? He seems very wise/strong/humble.

Kameron Ross is supa awesome. IF ya’ll get time you should check out his log.

Scoop-ster AKA 2-SCOOPS

DoveOfWar never posts anymore, but I used to watch his lifting video’s before my workouts :frowning:

and yah of course the usual STB M.Meat type people who I am convinced aren’t even human so they don’t count, haha.

HAHA! THanks, that is just the sweetest thing!

Good choices, they are definitely kicking ass and taking names. I draw inspiration from all three of them.

I’m gonna throw phleghms out there, his strength improvements have been as rapid as anyone’s and he’s pretty new to lifting if I remember right. His progress since the start of his “beginners log” is sick. Sorry for the embarrassment mayn.

I’m flattered to be mentioned here and to be called a rising star. I know I haven’t accomplished much in my short career, but I’m working on it. No secrets. My method is purely intuitive and often nonexistent. Going by dat feel. Glad to no longer be a brotard though apparently I am a dud. I’d like to be the best teen in the country. Doesn’t seem impossible.

Feel free to ask any questions if you want.

I don’t really pay attention to how much gains people are making. But I enjoy reading arramzy’s and CSeagles log. They work hard and keep their logs up to date somewhat

x2 on CS and spar4tee

I liked lurking on doveofwar’s shit but i haven’t been in there in awhile

2 Scoops of course.

Damn that kinda looks like my name there. I kept a log for a long time before life kicked me in the balls but I started posting again earlier this week. While it’s always good to be noticed, I’m too far away from my own goals to consider myself strong. Thanks for noticing, I’ve learned a lot from the other people mentioned in this thread.

I’ll throw LiquidMercury into this one too – someone who is obviously a student of the sport and has many big numbers coming his way.

I think Liquid will have a long and illustrious career both in the rowing/sculling arts as well

as being well followed here. Also, CSeagle and spar4tee : )

Ashylarry and Spar4tee

I gotta say, I think it’s cool I was even mentioned in here lol. When I first found this site I would always search for threads such as this, in hopes of finding what the big guys have done to get to where the are. I realize my lifts are nothing impressive, and I do consider myself a beginner, but I’d like to think that I’ve made some decent progress since joining this site almost 3 years ago. I usually don’t like to offer advice on the forums, because I can’t stand it when kids regurgitate something they read in an article, when they have no real experience and/or results to back it up.

What have I been doing to get to where I am now?

-Consistency.
I made beginner gains like everyone does. Then I came to realize that I can’t just walk into the gym and add 10 lbs to the bar every week. Somedays I would feel great and hit PRs all around, some days my warmup sets would feel like a ton. Learning to accept this is what has helped me a lot. When I first started and trained mainly 5/3/1, if I didn’t hit my PR for the day on my top set, I would get incredibly down. Not only would I be upset at the gym, it affected the rest of my day. Learning to accept bad days and shrug them off has been key. The less I stress about what I need to do, and the more I just enjoy my training and put in work, the better my progress is.

-Performance Training
I came across CT’s “Look Like A Bodybuilder, Perform Like An Athlete” program and fell in love with his style of training. I avoid grinding reps, and focus on quality reps, with the intention of maximum explosion and acceleration. I hardly ever max out a lift in training, unless I feel exceptionally awesome and know that it’s the day to his a PR (like the other day when I pulled 600, I was only planning on doing 415 x 2 x 3). I can’t remember the last time I missed a rep in training tbh. The more I focus on leaving the gym after I’ve gotten in my bread and butter work, and before I feel like I’ve done too much for that day, the faster my strength gains are.

-Food
I do not eat enough of this lol. I started out at an incredibly skinny 138 or something at 6’1". Once I want to say I added around 40 lbs in a year, and 30-35 lbs since then. I don’t know why kids complain about not being able to gain weight all of the time. I did the Anabolic Diet for around 6 months and it was a great learning experience for me. I don’t think eating <30g carbs 5 days a week is most ideal, because it makes eating out with friends/family quite the task lol. I did it, but it wasn’t fun. I learned a lot from the AD, mainly how to time my macros throughout the day to keep strength gains up while keeping fat gain in check.

Well I honestly feel like this is the most boring wall of text ever lol. My goals right now are to hover around 200 while I prepare for my first USAPL meet July 14th. If my training goes well I’ll be setting the squat, bench, and deadlift record for the state of Kansas in the 198 junior division. If I can bring my squat up to 450 in 9 weeks I’ll have it (which I know I can do). I’ve got a 600 DL and 345 bench right now that are already unofficial records.

If anyone has more specific questions just ask. My starting lifts were embarrassing, obviously. I started from scratch, just like everyone else who doesn’t have freak genetics.

As ashy and spar said, incredibly flattering ect to be mentioned. Thanks.

I wrestled all my life and did not get into powerlifting until last year. I had always done the big three but no formal approach other than pound out reps here and there.

I am a large supported of Smolov. I was pushed into it by a great Dler named Peter Rubish, best thing i did was take his advice and run it. I am going to continue into the intensive phase and hope to be as close to a 650 raw squat as possible by the end of summer.

Eat, Lift, Sleep, Repeat. PL is a great sport.

Any questions just lemme know here or in my log. I hope to compete by October and be as close to a 1700 total as possible.

Dove does not post as much, he has a big boy job, but he is an inspiration as well. He has put up some crazy numbers and gives lots of advice when approached.

  1. Be honest about what you want.
  2. Develop your own personal relationship with the iron.
  3. Have fun.
  4. Don’t bitch about what you suck at. You should be an ever improving specimen.
  5. Don’t gloat about what you’re good at. There’s tons of people that wreck your shit. Your focus should be shifted on wrecking their shit.
  6. Learn the basics. I’m not talking about movements, styles, jargon, or attitudes. I’m talking about principles and desires.
  7. Respect the various disciplines for what they are.
  8. Competition is great. You can be a hothead. Just don’t be a shithead.
  9. Missing lifts is great. It teaches you something.
  10. Stop whining about why you can’t do something and become a stronger person.
  11. Have fun with the haters and let them fuel your fire. They’re not going anywhere so might as well make their poison useful.
  12. Stand by your belief yet be open to new things. This is difficult to master. This is not a measure of time but of character. Some get there, some don’t. Just one of those things.
  13. Stop comparing yourself to every motherfucker and his mother under the sun. Visualize an epic, retardedly awesome version of yourself and strive to become that.
  14. If you have true passion, you’ll know it.
  15. Let your numbers speak for you. This includes hours spent in the gym and ounces of sweat and blood excreted and spilled. Thought I was going to say tears? You aren’t crying are you?
  16. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
  17. Understand that each person is different. Some people catch on a little quicker than others. I’m talking about intelligence, reasoning, and problem solving here.
  18. You see dat ass! You want dat ass! Take that dat ass! (dat ass being strength and numbers in this context but it’s an all-fits-one statement)
  19. If you aren’t happy with where your training is going, then change it. It’s your fucking life.
  20. Lift fucking weights and eat animals gawdammit.

ashylarryku great progress :), is there a certain program you are following ?

Nice thread here. As far as gains in a short period of time? It has taken me almost 15 years to get to a level where I am mildly competetive with the top guys at my weight. I have a genetic potential equivalent to a turd in a shit storm. Everyone in my family is under 6 feet tall and no one weighs more than 160lbs. I really think starting training at an early age (13) helped me get taller (6’2’'… and if you think I am crazy, read Dr. Yessis’s book “Training for Height”).

Anyway, my point is, you can out train shitty genetics. It just takes a really really long time.

Spar that’s an awesome post.

" Visualize an epic, retardedly awesome version of yourself and strive to become that. "

That is basically what I’ve been trying to do (with varying degrees of success) since I was like 5.

I agree with all the recommendations in here so far - some seriously awesome work being done by these guys.

I think Jab1 are kicking alot of ass in his log, so I think he deserves to be listed as one of those
ass kicking guys/gals.
