Megadosing BCAA's

I was thinking about megadosing BCAA’s, probably about .50 times bw. Has anyone tired using alot of BCAA’s spread threw out the day, and if so, what kind of results did you get. It would be kinda expensive, so I was just wandering is it was worth it. Thanks for any input.

Depends on how intense and frequent your workouts are. If you are working out 2-3 times a day then taking half your body weight in grams of BCAAs wouldn’t be a bad idea. If you are working out once every other day then I would spend that money on fishoil/protein.

Isn’t that too much? 50% of your weight?

I think he may mean .5g/lb of bodyweight…?

Exactly, but what got me thinking about it in the first place is that Thib talked in the BCAA article about how using alot produced an “almost drug like affect” so I googled it to see what others thought and found that a guy named Derek Charlebois had megadosed (a bcaa product, the articles somewhere on bodybuilding.com) and got some pretty decent results.

I think it would be a waste of money. How much you need should be dependent on how hard you train and how much muscle you currently have. You could megadose, but you’ll probably get the same results with much less than what you’re suggesting.

I mean, .5g/lb a day would be 125gram for a guy weighing 250. That’s half a bottle of Biotest’s stuff. If you brought the powder, you’ll have a hard time even getting that much in you (~1.5 cups).

Assuming you’re eating like a normal human being, there’s no way you need that much bcaas throughout the day either.

50% of your weight
0.5g/lb of bodyweight

Uh, isn’t that basically the same thing? 0.5g/lb is half of your bodyweight.

0.5lb/lb is half your bodyweight.

no bobo,

A 200lb man wouldn’t take 100 pounds of BCAA’s a day.

He means that he’ll take one half of a gram per pound of bodyweight [.5g/lb], not half of his bodyweight [.5lb/lb].

captain math

lol no that’s not what I meant at all. I didn’t mean BCAA in pounds. LOL that’s just ridiculous. I mean half (the number, ignoring units) of your bodyweight in grams.

If you’re 200 (lb), you’d be taking 100 (g) is what I meant. But yeah, isn’t that too much?

To the OP, I have been taking about 50 capsules a day of Biotest’s BCAAs. I will update you on strength increases from this protocol.

Haha…I knew what you meant, I was just giving you shit.

we wouldn’t really know if it was too much, because no one has ever done it before.

Thanks, I’d appreciate it

His friend Marc Lobliner is also doing it right now with Xtend. He’s taking in around 14 servings of xtend a day which is 98g of BCAA.

I’m hoping to take 10 servings of ICE BCAAs which is 50g. They taste good and are about $47 per 908g container.

I have two 1kg tubs of pure BCAA. 1 serving is 15g… and god does it taste awful.

ICE by extreme formulations taste good and has the proper ratios. Even Dr. John Berardi recommends it in one of his article. He says something along the lines of “before their was Biotest I used ICE BCAAs which was also a superior product.” It comes in 3 flavors, I like wildberry lemonade. Oh and theres also abotu 2000mg of Glutamine per serving in ICE so its a nice added recovery factor.

I use Biotest BCAAs here and there when I need caps, but for large dosage protocols, powdered is just much cheaper.

Yeah, the powder tastes like anus. If I’m home I just mix it in a shaker cup with something to offset the taste, then chug it. But for several doses throughout the day it’s a little inconvenient…
