Agreed. They are grandstanding for their own benefit. Congress has every right to demand MLB has a reasonable testing policy in place however they are carrying this thing way to far going after individuals for no reason.

I don’t think they have a right to demand anything. They have no business in baseball whatsoever.

Of course they do. Baseball has special status so they don’t have to follow anti-trust laws and they play in tax payer subsidized stadiums.

Baseball has a sordid history and has even had a fixed World Series.

Reasonable oversight of MLB is necessary. No one is above the law, not even the lawmakers.

I think this current investigation is not reasonable oversight and Congress should not be doing it. I urge everyone to vote against whoever decided to bring this up in committee.
Exactly, baseball has a special favor with the anti trust exemptions. Take that away and let the free market take over and see how baseball likes it.

I looked at todays hearings not from the hgh perspective but from the perspective that someone feels above the law enough to lie to congress. In my opinion there must be charges brought against one of the parties because one was not truthful under oath. If at this point no charges are brought it would be a mockery. I watched the whole thing today and it appeared obvious to me who perjury charges should be brought against.

I asked for proof. Not opinion. This is not the Mitchell investigation. I would actually like to know what lies Clemens told. Burton jumped all over McNamee’s ass for out right lying. Did anyone call Roger out for lying? The only people I heard it from were the ESPN Radio guys. But even they were unable to specify a lie. Lots of conjecture, but no real proof.

Who’s lying?

How about some proof? Anyone?
How the hell are we supposed to come up with proof? Seriously, I think Clemens is lying. I’m not a court of law, but I’ve been lied to. Hell, I have kids. Kids lie, so do athletes who are accused. Very few people say, darn, I would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you blasted kids.

That would be more of a public disservice than anything else. It will never happen because of the political backlash it would cause.

Wanna get a bunch of american men to the polls? Have a bunch of worthless politicians start fuck with their sports.

Proof. Proof. Proof. You have none. You have no clue if you are being lied to, or not. You just think you are being lied to.

Exactly. I don’t have proof. and I don’t think I’m being lied to because I never asked Roger Clemens if he took steroids. I think he’s lying. why? Because he was sliding downhill and all of a sudden got a lot better.

Because of the accusations. I know people who have sold steroids and took steroids. I’ve been around some of the best lifters around and realize these hyper competitive guys will do things to win. thing s they think they need to. things that give them little money and glory.

Now throw out 18 million dollar a year contracts and would a hyper competitive guy take steroids, especially when it will help and is not against the rules of the game? I say they will.

Not that I care. I think these hearings are retarded. If it’s not against the rules of the game, who cares. Now they have testing and that’s good. Punish the offenders but stop pretending your shocked MLB that steroids were around.

MLB reminds me of that police chief in Casablanca all shocked about gambling while he was getting his dough.

Years ago i told people McGuire and Sosa were on the juice. People didn’t believe me. Now most think so. A big Cardinals fan couldn’t believe his hero took them, but Bonds was dirty, hahahaha!

So to sum it up, I think mos these guys took steroids, I don’t really care except I hope Clemens gets the Bonds treatment, since fair is fair. And congress is being plain silly. And MLB is just grandstanding to get some leverage on the players.

My entire posting here was revolving around the concept that one of the parties Clem or Mac was lying under oath. I have no personal concern if athletes use but if caught you can not lie under oath. You can lie as much as you want as long as it was not preceded with your hand on a bible. If the photo of clemens at the party exists I think perjury charges must follow.
