Just in Bonds was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for perjury and obstruction of justice in the ongoing “steroid scandal.”
I have mixed feelings. I'm sad about the way the Government is hunting down athletes like the Spanish Inquisition. But I never cared for Bonds, like many folks. He's an arrogant jerk who even pissed off the Giants so much they let him go after he broke the all time home run record.
Opinions?
Sad that the record has to be tarnished like this and probably much of his career. He might have been a jerk but he still was a good player long before the steroid abuse, now he might not even get in the Hall of Fame.

Same as you. I don’t like the guy but this is a witch hunt. Time to end this BS.
This is ridiculous. “What evidence do they have now that they didn’t before?” My sentiments exactly. Granted I believe Barry took the stuff since I read part of SI’s series about steroids and performance enhancers in baseball, but he still hasn’t tested positive! They haven’t proven jack.

I’m pretty sure he did test positive for something. Maybe greenies? He blamed it his teamate…said something about he went in the wrong locker. I’ll try to find the article.

Yea…tested positive for amphetabmines which arent steroids but are still illegal. got off with a “warning” which is MLBs policy for first time offenders. Bonds blamed it on teamate Mark Sweeny.

Bonds was a HOFer way before 2001. No one in the history of the game made contact as consistently as Bonds. [/quote]
You’re absolutely right. People seem to forget that before 2001, he lead the national league in OPS 5 times throughout the 90’s. Only the super all-time greats have ever accomplished that feat. He also won 8 gold gloves in that time. He was the best player of the 90s.
However, with that being said I’m like 99% certain that Bonds was using steroids. From all the information that has been brought up about Bonds (the doping calendars for instance) and as we all know, nobody went to BALCO LABS for supplements. All those athletes went for the juice. Going to Balco for supplements is like saying I’m going to Hooters for wings and beer.
And also, Bonds didn’t help his case by his testimony. There is one thing that he said in the testimony and he said:
“Man, Greg [Anderson] was rubbing this cream on my knee and making me drink this “clear” substance.”
There is one problem which Patrick Arnold pointed out when he was interivewed by Bob Costas: THG, aka “the clear” is not a clear substance, its green. The clear was only called that by Conte because the athletes who used it never got caught. It was agreed by Bonds to the Grand Jury, that he mistakenly used steroids and THG was the substance he ingested. Well the question is this: why the hell did Bonds use the slang term for THG if he didn’t know what he was taking? He got caught in a lie.

Does it say what he was indicted for other than perjury and obstruction of justice?
Neither of those charges specifically say that he did steroids or they can prove it. Those seem like charges they file when they can’t get you for what they really want you for… Like Capone and tax evasion.

Well I stand corrected. It seemed he broke a rule, and it was dealt with then. Akin to a player serving a penalty for a stick infraction in hockey… So I don’t think this should have anything to do with bonds being indicted.
So I fix my statement, “he still hasn’t tested positive for steroids!” Granted, one infraction does demand deeper probing, but that’s not the government’s job.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think he is being prosecuted for steroid use but for lying under perjury, obstruction of justice in a federal court and other similar crimes with steroid use being the basis for his lies.
If the feds were throwing a possible thirty years at him for using roids, it would be outrageous.
But they are throwing the book at him for lying about the illegal distribution of a drug deemed illegal in the way it was used during a federal investigation.
I realize many people hold soft sentiments torward steroid use here, I personally think all drugs should be legal, but the fact is illegal drug use is a big legal no no and lying to federal investigators in an investigation is a big crime to commit.
If he did lie to federal investigators and was stupid enough to think he’d get away with it, he deserves what he gets. It was ridiculous for Paris Hilton to suffer lesser punishment than normal people and it would be ridiculous for Bonds to get away with lying to federal investigators.
no but seriously, gov’t stay the fuck out of our business.
i broke my window today because 2 girls were suffering from hypothermia(long story), and it was one of the few options i had, since the girl was pounding on the window, bare hand, and i didn’t want her to break her hand, so i broke the window.(columbus, mich weekend, mirror lake jump in)
My roommates didn’t like the decision, and said i just wanted to break the window because of my roid rage.
i don’t take roids, i wouldn’t look this fucking not-jacked.
