Dawg,
We’re brewing a 10 gal batch of pale ale. I’m shooting for something pretty close to Bass. Last batch of this recipe turned out pretty good. A former manager of mine is gonna be my brew b*tch, and do the heavy lifting. Of course, he gets 5 gallons of the nectar…
Gawd, I love smellin’ the mash, and the boil…
I hear ya - what hops & schedule you using? Kent Goldings to finish? Wye Target for the boil?
You using any corn? I think Bass Ale uses a fair bit of corn.
a former brewer wants to know!

Goldings fer sure! Corn? Sacrilage! If Bass used corn, I’m swearing off of British pale ale! I am deeply depressed!
A quick scan of the net reveals
No corn there. I have Foster’s book on brewing pale ale, and no mention of any adjuncts such as corn in there either.
Anyway, none in my beer. It will be, like totally, Reinheitsgebot, w/ pale malt, crystal, and hops. I add some gypsum to approximate the sulfer content, but also some calcium carbonate to keep maintain the PH. I always use some Irish moss too.

Mead sound good. Are you doing your lifting under the eye of a terrorist, I mean therapist, or on your own?
Harry, I’m flyin’ solo. Doc said 1-2 sessions with the terrorist to “teach” me how to do DB curls and DB hammer curls. Doc gave me a progression of 1-2 lbs/week. I saw the terrorist for 1 session, then he couldn’t make the second scheduled session. They wanted to give me a substitute terrorist, but at $30/session co-pay I figured I’d had enough “teaching”. So, I’m on my own.
Just did 3x5 at 8.5 lbs tonight. It was “ALL ME”. I da man!
D*mn! I forgot to do those curls in my power cage!
Looks like your sense of humor has remained intact. And the 1-2# a week will add up.
Their “teachings” for the curls didn’t involve a bosu ball, did it?
I’ve had to do a fair bit or work over where our PTs are. Usually they just look bored.

D*mn! I got in trouble again!
I have been checking in on some of you. I hear that Meat is gonna run a marathon or something…
In fact, I was just getting ready to post something, and started looking for my thread. Didn’t even look on page 1. Went back 4-5 pages, couldn’t find it, and thought that I’d gotten deleted entirely.
I had my 12 week follow up with the orthopedist today. He says I’m doing great. I can continue to gradually increase weights, but no dynamic movements for the next 12 weeks. He said it would probably be another 4-6 weeks before it really starts to feel “right”. I’m ok’d to get a bar on my back again. Woo hoo! Squats!
I’ve been doing light weight, full body workouts. I’ve been using an adjustable tie-down strap over my shoulders to do squats. Benches and rows have been with DBs - light and high rep. I’m still walking a lot. My weekly long walks are up to 10-11 miles, otherwise it’s 3-5. I’m thinking about buying a rower (probably a Concept II).

it’s good to hear from you and great to hear the rehab is progressing nicely.

Oh, I’ve been doing those for weeks now!
Yep. Definitely great to hear from you and excellent news about the recovery. And if you are cleared for squats…well, everything gets biger when you squat.
How do they define “dynamic movements”?

The term is mine, but it means any movement where you have significant acceleration of the weight. I jerk the pull rope on my lawn mower with my left hand since that is a dynamic movement. Insert your joke of choice here.
And speaking of squats, I loaded up a bar to a big 65 lbs tonight, and squatted to my heart’s content. Given how out of shape I am, that didn’t take too long. Then I went to Growler’s Pub, and contented my heart in an entirely different manner.

Well, almost everything
Good point. I’ve heard, though, if, while squatting, you take a 5# weight and tie it to…uh…nevermind.
That sounds like a great, and functional, definition. And I would think that rapid/jerky movement would be very bad…for now.
And that looks like a great place to hang out. I don’t think we have as cultured a place here in OKC.
I do, on rare occasions, visit a place called Royal Bavaria. A German restaurant, run by German immigrants. They have the best brats I have ever had. Also, they brew their own beer. Even their dark is a tad light for me (and no, I am not in the Guinness crowd), but it is very good.

On page 3 again We’re gonna have to hire someone to keep up with you…
I’m incorrigible!
I am still lifting, but still pretty light. My bench is up to about 100 lbs, but I’m only rowing the 35# dumbbells because I’m still pretty nervous about putting too much stress on the biceps yet. Squats are up to about 125. I’m doing SLDLs with the dumbbells, but no deads off the floor.
I bought a Concept II Rower in June. I used it for a while, but started having some problems with the arm, so I quit for a while. I may try it again in the next few days.
Tomorrow will mark 20 weeks post surgery. So far, so good.
What Jack said. Good to see that you are still with us and that the rehab is moving along. It is never as fast as one would like, but progress is progress. No need to rush the stress on the biceps. You’ll move it when you are ready…and that’s all that matters.
I would love a rower. But I have no where to put it (unless it folds) and, even then, no money to buy one

I forgot to mention that I entered a 12 hour run this September. I plan to walk it, and hope to get in a marathon, and if the planets are in alignment (and the knee doesn’t give out) I might squeeze out 50K. I’ve been doing some longer walks (16 miles the longest), but not this weekend.
Oh yeah, I’ll be teaching Circuits I this fall at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
Now that you’re back from your walk about, let’s take a look here. Lot of volume, squats look good, gettin back on the horse with deadlifts, sl and Romanian. Lot of cardio, how long do you think it’ll take you to walk 35 miles? And teaching no less! Busy man. Really glad you’re back.

Thanks, Hel.
50K is only 31 miles, and it’ll probably take around 10 hours. I can walk faster than 3 mph, but probably can’t sustain that pace for that long. Also, there will be some down time to upload nutrients, and to download byproducts. Nice thing about these long, timed events, is that they’ll probably have pizza mid-afternoon. This is the event
