All you ‘Dave Tate said’ guys are aware that EFS sell this product…in their band section…right?[/quote]
Does that mean it doesn’t work?
EDIT: Nevermind, I misunderstood what you were saying.

The bands due to the added resistance at the top, teach you to press FAST to overcome that resistance. I’ve tried pushing normal speed and was unable to lockout the press. Pressing faster cured that and now I push fast at all times.

I’ve trained myself to be more explosive in most of my movements.

Would you say that training with bands is the main reason that you are now a fast pusher?
Couldn’t you just attempt to maximize the number of push-ups you do in 2 minutes? This would force you to push faster.
At what point did you introduce this device? I would think I would do something like this after I am doing 10x50 in a circuit with pull-ups doing 10x10’s. But I’m not that strong yet.

Actually I don’t use bands very often. I first used them years ago. About the time I became aware of how acceleration improved my power.
I like the Power Pushup2, and started this thread, because it makes a great addition to any workout. For pure strength, of course, nothing beats singles/doubles with a max weight while on the bench.
The trouble I’ve always had with benching is that it treats your upper body as seperate from your whole self. Watch a guy who can bench 400 lbs struggle with 2 bags of softener salt (180 lbs; used to deliver same in college). I’ve seen HUGE guys, guys who obviously hit the weights, struggle with kegs, at a liquor store where I worked in college. Is this what the old-time boxers were talking about when they described bodybuider muscles as phony muscles?
Anyway, my point was that pushups, when done with the PP2, might be better than benching when in the REAL WORLD. Of course, so is tire tossing, pushing your old junk car around in a field, and so on.
Sounds like you’re shifting the discussion to lifting outside of the gym. You also have sandbag work you can.
I think adding additional resistance makes sense, but I also think that adding it too early wastes an opportunity to develop endurance. If you’re doing 500 push-ups a work out, then yeah, add some resistance. If you can barely pump out 100 in 2 minutes, then wait on adding the resistance. I am sure some folks will disagree, and I would like to hear the reasons why.
