Mag-10 gains

Now we’ve all heard about gaining upwards of 20-30 pounds from proper use of Mag-10. Now, how much of this can we be expected to keep? From what little I know about steroid cycles, there is the possibility of losing a good amount of what is gained. How much does this apply to Mag-10? Bill? Brock? peace, RM

Excellent question…!

It can get a little complicated, but here’s what I know from talking to Bill. If you aren’t near your genetic peak or “ceiling” naturally then you can expect to keep most of the new muscle if you keep training and eat enough to support it. (Do not go on a strict cutting program right after a mass cycle or you’ll risk losing the new gains. Took me a long time to realize this.)

Now, let’s say you’re already peaked out naturally (which most people aren’t even if they say they are- usually there’s just a problem with diet or stagnant training, or sissy training in a few cases.) Let’s assume a person really is peaked out genetically. Let’s say he peaked out at 200 pounds. He uses androgens like steroids or MAG-10 and puts on 20 pounds. If he keeps training, never uses androgens again, and eats right, he can expect to keep half of these new gains and still end up 10 pounds over what he could have ever achieved on his own.

(So you see why a person entering a “natural” BB contest would still have an advantage if he used steroids early in his career but has been natural the last few years- he would still be above what he could have achieved if he were a lifetime natural.)

There’s also some glycogen/water loss after an androgen cycle so I expect most people will see a pound or so lost to that. Here’s what Bill has said regarding MAG-10: “With time, eight weeks of use for example, most can expect to put on 20 to 30 pounds of lean body mass beyond what could have been attained without the use of androgens, or beyond your starting point, whichever is less.”

Chris, I read one of your earlier threads on not going from one phase to another immediately and admittedly fall into that category. If I remember right, were you and John Berardi going to come out with a training program to go along with Mag-10.(possibly diet, although I am partial to Massive Eating)

saccob- Yes, John and I have put together a killer 6 week training and diet program. It’s not written specifically for MAG-10, but MAG-10 would go along with the two week balls-to-the-wall phase quite well.

Chris, is that training/diet plan scheduled to be released around the same time as Mag-10? Referring to an earlier post, I am a fat hardgainer but I have been using Berardi’s eating plan and combining it with Coach Davies training and with some very good results so far. It’s no surprise I suppose, eat real well and train real hard, duh! You think after 13 years of doing this I would know better but oh well. Anyway, I am very interested to see what you guys come up with… BTW, the other day I called to pre-order Mag-10… Prior to that, about 6 weeks ago, I had ordered a cycle of AndroSol and hadn’t used it. The Mag-10 announcement came and so I called and asked if I could return it and apply that credit to the Mag-10. I realize that BioTest plans on having all the other prohormones go away so to an extent you guys had to “eat” that return. Being an manufacturer myself, I can appreciate the sacrifice that takes and I wanted to say that I thought it was damn honest of you guys to be willing to do that. You certainly didn’t have to take that AndroSol back. Thanks…

gabe- Not sure when we’re going to run the program. We have a ton of great articles piled up and it’s tough to choose which few go in every week.

Our program has three phases and each phase has its own article. They’ll be published at two week intervals and since each phase is two weeks long, you’ll be able to start as soon as the first article is posted. The training part of the program (and the diet) changes during each phase. This is a traditional bodybuilding program. I like a lot of the functional strength and athletic preparation stuff we’ve been posting lately, but this program is going to back to our roots- it’s pure bodybuilding with nary a kettlebell or cone drill in sight. Nothing against that stuff, but this one is about getting big and muscular- period. Arnold would approve.
