Thanks dawg. Nice to see you working hard as well.
Thanks, mang, trying to get my overhead press and deadlift to be stronk. Oh, how do you find strongman competitions? I am trying to get started in strongman, and I have no idea about who the federations are, what their websites are, etc.

North American Strongman (Nastrongman.com), sanctions most contests in the states. Just check their site for upcoming contests around your area, or wherever, and it’s all pretty self explanatory from there man. ASC handles pro shows and other things therein.

7/26/15 - Hit a new 3x3 PR from 3 inch blocks. Previous PR was 565, and the last set on it was actually harder than with 585.

Deadlifts from 3 inch blocks (sumo)
135x8
225x3
315x3
405x3
500x1
585x1
585x3 slow off the blocks but getting my hips through pretty easy and much better than the previous single
585x3 last rep was tougher than I wanted. I did not take a breather before this one. too zealous.
585x3 100% better than the last one. Took more time to make sure I was starting the pull less like an asshole.

Weighted Single Leg Hip Thrust: (I do it normally with a bar on my groin but i just put the foot of the glute/leg I don’t want trained out forward more and just focus on using only the left. I do this for my hip imbalance)

7/27/15 -Yesterdays session. Felt good on the warm ups but as I got heavier I definitely felt the impact of the deadlifts from sunday.

Strict Axle Press
125x5
175x3
215x3
245x1
270x1 almost passed out but I got it. First time going heavy with a strict axle.
220x4 miscounted, thought I did 5.
220x5 better

Strict Log Press
110x5
160x3
190x3

Right back at you and then some more!

7/30/15 - Pretty cool workout today. Went heavy on the log cleans and hit a PR. Was sweating really bad today (like all workouts in good ole NC) and it started getting harder and harder to keep the log on my lap and to transition without a hindrance from being so slippy. Solid day though. Finished it by almost killing myself.

Log Cleans
110x5,3
200x3
250x3
275x2
300x2 felt good, very manageable.
325x1 PR failed the double but whatever. These will much easier in the winter time when I’m not drenched!

Then I kicked into high gear and did 10 axle power cleans with 135 every minute on the minute for 10 minutes. These were brutal and by the 6th set I was writhing on the floor trying to get as much oxygen in as possible. I even stopped myself from going back inside to the AC. The best thing I did was on the last set banged them all out in a fast succession to make up for me being a heaving worm floundering on the floor on the earlier sets.

I’ll post the video later.

Great job on the log PR man! and the axle work sounds like death!
I can also relate about the humidity. Here in MD it is rather ripe as well. You know you are hot when you sweat right through your belt…

great work in here man!

Thanks man, means a lot. I’ve been feeling pretty apathetic lately about training. I spend a lot of time getting better at one thing, and then the things I used to be good at are far behind. Any way, gotta have something to chase, right?

8/2/15 - was not going to log these sessions but i guess i should.

250x1 felt pretty shitty but ascended any way?
270x0 hardly budged off my chest. Didn’t accept a strength weakness so I frustratingly kept trying to press it multiple times to 3 emphatic failures lol.

Called that workout short. was pretty mad.

8/9/15 - Good deadlift day. Changed plans on my last warm up and it was for the best.

Deadlifts@ floor: every minute on the minute for 10 minutes deadlift 500lbs.
500x10x1 (i did take 2-3 minutes on my last 2 sets because of some distractions but whateva)

My straps became SOAKED in sweat from leaving them on for the sets so I ditched them and pulled hook for first time with anything over 315. To my surprise the last 2 sets with hook were significantly easier than the FIRST sets with straps. Thumbs were unscathed.

260x20 This felt wonderful on my back (no sarcasm), and I didn’t feel the agony 20 rep squats normally incite, but my quads were losing their power. Once my legs get accustomed to squatting again I think I’ll be back to my old self lol. Goal is 365x20, perhaps by fall.

20 reps squats… mmk

What’s the reason for doing the 20 rep squats? Strong stuff btw
JW9000 wrote:

Thanks!

The idea is to take 60-70% of your squat max and find some sick and twisted way to hit 20 reps with it. Usually by the 12th rep your body is ready to call it quits but the method involves taking as much needed time to breathe at the top to give your body rest before descending again. I personally start by using light weights and building up. I should be able to hit 365 for 20 by the end of this.

315x20 happy with this I’d say. Went from 225 burning the SHIT out of me to not wavering at all with 315. Legs wanted to give on the last 5 but stuck with it.

You know a 20 rep squat set was easy when you look back at it in retrospect and you laugh at it. So I went into this wanting 365x20 WITH a belt, but now I want it without one. Not so sure about this, might take a long long time.
