Low Bar Squat Back/Hip Soreness

I recently switched over to low bar squatting from a higher bar squat. When I had the bar higher on my back, it was causing me to tip forward and not squat well. However, a friend recommended low bar squatting and it helped immediately. I felt balanced and stronger.

However, after doing a month straight of low bar squats, my back is starting to flare up. Tonight was my deload squat night for the 531 and I stopped at 315x5 (470 max, 425 training max). My low back and hips are pretty sore. Should I be concerned? Any tips other than rest, icing and foam rolling?

On a low bar squat the body uses different leverage since the center of gravity shifts backward and the posterior chain is more involved and the quads are less involved than high bar squat so it is normal

Are you sure you aren’t “bent leg goodmorning-ing” the weight up? I’ve seen guys switch to a low bar position and they suddenly let their chest cave and end up with their asses in the air and head down and a bar full of weight on their backs. They then complain of low back hurt. Chest up!
