After many years of following a powerlifting routine, I’m changing to a cardio/strongman routine. Starting out with the cardio part. Spent the late winter months doing running drills inside, knee kicks and jumping jacks mostly.
Got outside recently. Started out fast walking, with the intention if slowly adding in running. And that’s where the problem starts. Not to far in, before I even start running, I get pain and tightness in my low back. Stopping and stretching does little to alleviate it. But stop walking, even without sitting down and it goes away almost immediately.
I’ve had this problem for a few years powerlifting and was always able to fix it by dedoubling my hamstring stretching post-workout. Doing more GM’s of every type helps too.
So what gives, I stretch my hamstrings religiously after a workout, and they and my back “feel” great. But next time it’s right back to the same problem.
Any suggestions?
