Losing Strength In One Exercise

Guys

I noticed that I lost strenght with shoulder press in my last workouts, not only I??m stagnating but I also couldn??t complete the same usual number of reps!!

I??m not overtraining since I??m on push, pull, legs program so I have a full week to recover my shoulders. (I lost strenght only in this exercise : standing shoulder press , with dumbbells)

I??m not undereating since I eat a lot (ok, it??s not a clean diet) but I have all the nutrients and I never forget my whey shake.

I also have plenty of rest,I sleep 8hours per nite,at least.

Why in the world am I loosing strenght in this exercise ? Any ideas ?

You may have plateaued on that exercise. Try progressing again next time you do the workout. If you can’t, then substitute a different shoulder exercise (try switching from BB to DB, arnolds, upright rows, etc…) and work on getting strong on that.

How long have you been tracking this? If your numbers went down for 1 week its probubly just a fluke. It happense to everyone. Theres a ton of stuff that can effect the exercise. Where you do it in your routine, what you did the last workout, how much you ate that day, what you ate that day.

try doing this exercise first. i usually set new PR almost every time i do some different exercise first.

This is the very first exercise of the routine, I keep a log : I started stagnating a month ago and the last workouts were even worse :frowning:

The only thing I can think of is that maybe I should eat something before the workout, but again,if “no-fuel” was the cause all other lifts should be affected…

i guess you could try deloading for a couple weeks or do some other exercise

Going down in weight on an exercise can be very mentally defeating. Use this as an opportunity to try a new shoulder exercise to perfect, simply banging your head against the wall during a stagnation period can be a disaster for your workout. Try a different rep range to accompany your new exercise as well, you’ll be glad you did. It’s a new way to stimulate growth.
