I am new to this site and was looking for suggestions on reaching my goals. I am thirty five and haven’t lifted seriuosly in 10 years. I would like to compete in bodybuilding by 40. not sure if this is possible but I believe with my genetics this is possible.
I have an excellent periodization training program I believe will help to get me on my way, but diet and nutrition is where I lack most of my knowledge. If I could get some insight on any of this that would be helpful. could also post any results I get from the advice I get here.
Go to the beginners thread and read the stickies on the top. Once you have a basic understanding of nutrition you can ask some more specific questions.
Good things: fruits, vegetables (including potatoes as long as they’re not fried), beef, chicken, turkey, buffalo, fish(and fish oil), eggs, shellfish, and olive oil.
Bad things: Most things containing HFCS, anything cooked in modified oils (hydrogenated, partially hydrogenated, interesterified, brominated, etc), anything with more than a few additives and artifical ingredients.
Grain products (bread, pasta, etc), fruit juice, and a few other items could probably go either way depending on the individual. You just have to figure out what works for you in terms of carb consumption and reaching your goals.
Eat enough calories to grow muscle. If you’re not growing eat more. If you’re gaining too much body fat eat less.
