Are there any boxers from the Boston area who could recommend a good gym for a beginner? I’ve been going to the Somerville Boxing Club but their hours don’t really fit my schedule and I think they’re going to be shutting down for a few weeks anyway while they move locations. I’d really like a place where I’ll be able to learn a great deal.
I’m going to check out The Ring boxing club on Friday, but that place seems fairly expensive, and based on their website they seem to cater to the fitness crowd a great deal. I’m interested in a place where I can learn to box in order to do some sparring and some amateur competition. I’m definitely a newb right now. Thanks a lot.

This is a shot in the dark, but look in Southie. Lot of decent fighters come out of there.
Also, I think Micky Ward is training fighters out of either Boston or Lowell. Worth looking into, even if you gotta drive a bit.
Hell, I’d drive three hours to learn to fight from Mick…

Thanks for the reply. You’re right, there is a gym or two in Southie. I was planning on checking out a gym run by Peter Welch. I live in Cambridge a little north of Boston, so I ended up picking a gym closer to my apartment.
Speaking of Micky Ward, they’re making a movie about him called “The Fighter.” I think he’s gonna be played by Mark Wahlberg. It’s supposed to come out next summer.
Not exactly boxing but if i was anywhere near boston i’d go here
