Supposedly there is a Gold’s Gym on Lansdowne Steet (near Northeastern).[/quote]
I went there for about a year. Probably the best gym in the city limits, and definitely the best in that area (not to mention most affordable), but no power rack. There are 3 squat racks, one DL platform, 3 flat benches, 2 inclines, and 1 decline, DBs up to 120 or 150 (can’t remember which, but you can bring your own DB handles if you need more weight) and a bunch of adjustable benches.
I know they’re letting a friend of mine bring in chains, bands, and whatever else he feels like, and they were going to let me bring in thick-handled DBs if I bought some (ended up not being able to get them at the time).
The girls at the front desk may give you some funny looks but the staff is generally really friendly. Steve and Ryan (the managers) are really nice guys and they sometimes give free stuff away at random (I must have 5 T-shirts, none of which I had to pay for).
A few big mofos, and a few decently strong guys there, but there are still the pansies you find in any gym. Plenty of hawt asses though (not that you can’t go down Newbury Street for that).
And since it’s right across from Fenway Park, a lot of the visiting teams will train there. My last day there, the Blue Jays came in and trained, so that’s always cool.
If you’re into good beer, hit up Bukowski’s off of Boylston St, next to Hynes Convention Center. 100 varieties of microbrews, burgers for less than $2 before 4:00, and good music most of the time. Drink one for me, knowing I spent most of my last semester in there drinking fantastic beer, writing mediocre music and having great conversations.
