Looking for Advice

I’m looking for some advice on some strength building that can be done at home(no gym nearby and no equipment at home).

Not looking for huge muscles, just some muscle/strength building and generally healthier life.

Currently around 170lbs and 5’9" so not really fat(though there is a bit of a stomach to get rid of). Any advice is welcome, to include diet changes, exercises and/or supplements(though more cost is a factor).

Thanks.

Look up bodyweight exercises.

You’re willing to buy supplements, but not a gym membership or some basic home equipment? There’s something wrong with that.

Where do you live? You can find a 300-pound barbell set for $150-$200 in most of the U.S. Look on Ebay or Craigslist to sometimes find cheaper used stuff. Also check out the “Poor Man’s Equipment Thread” for some ideas.

But if you still want to train on the cheap, no worries. Grab a backpack or duffel bag, there’s got to be one laying around your house somewhere. Now stuff it with everything that’ll fit. Not sweaters and t-shirts, but heavier things like textbooks, phonebooks, boots, whatever can fit.

Congrats, you just built a weight. Search the web for info on sandbag lifting, and you should be able to do most of the exercises with your bag. Some of the easiest ones: Bearhug it and walk. Bearhug it and squat. Press it overhead with one arm. Press it overhead and squat. 1-arm row. Swing it to different heights (chest level, eye-level). Snatch it overhead. Basically, take the weight, pick it up somehow or move it somewhere, repeat.

You can start with bodyweight exercises. I would also start with a set of dumbells.

Together they will give you a big variety of exercises for not a lot of money. You need to start somewhere, like three days a week for 45 minutes each time.

There really is a huge variety of choices. So really you need to just get started any old way and realize that it is normal to make lots of changes along the way.

Sorry if I confused you, I live in Korea and most apartments(like mine) are quite small. I can’t afford, or have the room, for any large equipment(barbell set wouldn’t even fit).

Things like dumbells and other smaller items are not a problem. The closest gym would take me at least an hour(if the traffic is nice, which in Seoul it normally isn’t) to get there, and then another to get back. Hence currently from home is the only option.

Thanks for the replies so far.

All you need is a nice heavy rock.

  1. Pick up rock, throw rock up and foward (Like a basketball pass but higher), run to rock, pick it up and repeat. Choose a distance to go to and increase it each time.

2)Pick up heavy rock, pick a distance, carry rock there. Drop rock. Puke. Pick up rock and walk back.

3)Pick up rock, throw granny style, run to rock and repeat as in 1.

4)Tie rope around rock, tie other end to waist. Sprint while dragging rock.

  1. Stand up, pick up rock, Lift rock over head and lower, repeat.

  2. Lie on back, bench press rock.

  3. Do pushups on rock.

  4. Squat while holding rock

9)Tie rope around rock and play tug o war with it.
