Look Strong, Be Strong

Great work going on in here. And your log seems like the place to be. It’s got a bit of everything.
Oh…and sorry you the VERY belated welcome.
Hey thanks for dropping in!
I don’t if it’s the place to be but I’ll agree that it is a bit of a mess. Feel free to add some advice or lay something random down if the mood strikes.

Thanks guys. I need to adjust 5/3/1 so the reps are lower. The high reps beat me up. I’m going to tweak my max weights a bit so that I end up a couple of reps over on my 5, 3 and 1 days with no grinders.

So, 7/5/3?
That’s pretty much my strategy as well. Get the main prescribed reps in plus a bit and let the assistance lifts drive the main lifts up over time.

Well, let’s hope we’re right.
My bench and OHP are terrible. Since I have never really had any focus on them (zero for the bench) until recently, my plan is to do BBB (mostly) for those so I can get the motor patterns down. I am desperate to get past the embarassing weights stage with those.

I’m going to go with assistance lifts for DLs and squats rather than BBB.

If you are on Wave 3 and its not hard yet, add to your maxes. Not a problem I’ve EVER had with 5/3/1, but then again I’m rockin’ those fractional plates for a reason.

Cycle 3 Week 2
OHP
So in order to reduce the reps, I bumped my max up by 20 lbs to 165 (hyooge I know…). It was a stange day.
I’m walking across the gym parking lot and my Blackberry rings. It’s Dave. Dave is helping me try to win the single biggest deal in the company’s history. He says “I was talking to Eduardo at “X” company and he told me something disturbing. Actually, can I call you back?” Click. Dave, WTF. So I wait in my car for 15 minutes. Nothing. fuck you Dave and fuck you Blackberry. So go train but I’m distracted.

OHP 5s day
95 x 5
115 x 5
140 x WTF!? I go press and one side goes up fine and the other completely stalls and the bar is going up crooked. I rack. Check to make sure I didn’t misload. Try again.
140 x you dirty fucker. Same thing. I figure I have a shoulder issue because the issue is on my bad shoulder.

I unload the plates. As I’m putting back one of the 45s, it feels “odd”. I pick up another 45 with the other hand. WTF…that plate must weight 55 lbs. It is friggin heavy. No wonder I was lifting like I was drunk. I blame the Chinese. So…reload and try again
135 x 7
100 x 10, x 10, x 10, x7 , x 7, x7…as many sets as required to get to 50 without grinders

Bunch of lateral raises.

Out.

Looking real good!

Nice work.

I hate when the bar doesn’t feel right. I have a couple of plates that feel slightly heavier than the rest. Even with 3 plates on each side, I can tell if only one of those is on the bar. Screws with one’s head.

This one was rediculous. It was the same brand and size but it was noticeably heavier. It completely threw off my balance and it did definitely screw with my head.

My coach told me the other day that the bar I was squatting with only weighed 40 lb. rather than 45. Okay. I know it’s only 5 lb. But when you have an ego as fragile as mine . . .

I laughed out loud reading about your MPs. Dirty fucker.

Funny now…then I thought I was having a stroke or something. “Fuck, I’m weaker on my left side. What’s going on. Am I slurring my speech?”

That sort of stuff happens to me all the time. At least you figured out what the hell was going on.

Pigtails, skirts and knee high socks were mentioned at one point. For those visual learners among us…

Thank you…

I believe the skirts were on the men . . .

Oh dear…I feel an inappropriate SAMA comment building. I’ll resist.

Cycle 3, week 2
Deads
So, I had my first energy drink. Monster something in a black can. I have a couple of cups of coffee in the morning to get me going. But this stuff…I was friggin WIRED! and I was flushed and sweating more than usual. I`m a stimulant lightweight.

Deads 3s
275 x 3
315 x 3
365 x 9…PR of 4 reps over last cycle. I had 2 more reps in me. 365 x 10 says my max is 487. I find that hard to believe.

Wide grip chins
5 x 5

Hammer curls (for hel320)
35 x 3, 40 x 3, 50 x 3, 60 x 3, 65 x 3, 70 x 7, 50 x 10

Machine curls
3 x 6-8 reps

Seated calf
1 pps x 50 rest pause reps. My calves felt drained. Must have been the deads.

Happy with the deads tonight.

My plan was to take it easy and go for a solid 5 reps but things felt good. Next week is my “get at least 1 rep” day. Since I’ll be using 385, I expect 7-8. Which seems high.

I’m trying to figure out the optimal number of reps for my go for broke day. I’m thinking it should be in the 3-5 range. If so, I probably need to raise my estimated max from 445 to 475 or so.
