Look Strong, Be Strong

cool torture device. very jealous indeed.

I was organizing my home training area yesterday and my 9 year old spied my winter wheels/tires. So he flipped around the yard for a while. It was too light so he wants me to get a truck tire for him to flip
He’s going to be the badass of grade 5 next year, lol.

Cycle 5, week 2

Squats
225 x 3
275 x 3
315 x 4…the intent was to beat 315x6 but I knew that wasn’t going to happen by rep 3 so I shut it down. I need to warm-up more effectively. The groove never was there and my hips were tight.

So on to…
Front squats
135 x 3
155 x 3
185 x 3
195 x 3…previous max
205 x 3…PR
225 x 3…PR. First time doing 225 and it felt great. Granted, everything is a PR since I haven’t done front squats much.

Leg curls
4 x 10

Four plates on front squats is very stout. I guess the squats got you warmed up nicely. What do you usually do to warm up? I do a couple minutes on the rower, then a bunch of hip flexor stuff, sumo squat holds and lunge holds, shoulder dislocates, and that’s it.

Yeah, well I, umm, just usually start squatting (bar, 95, 135, etc.) with some hip stretching mixed in.

The problem is that I lift at lunch and I always feel crunched for time. So, I bail on the warm-up which is, obviously, a crappy idea. My new resolution is to spend at least 5 minutes doing something to get my body ready.

Lol!! My thoughts exactly.

Good work in here Git!

I totally understand crunched for time. But, I sit all day for work. So if I don’t warm up my hips, I’m screwed on squats or deads. You should log your warmups to keep yourself honest. You know how “resolutions” sometimes go…

I sit all day as well so I understand what you are sayin’. OK, logging warm-ups starting now.

cute tire flip story - you should totaly get him one for christman with a big red bow on it  I want one too while your at it!

and nice front squat PR’s

So this is where the chicks hang out. Hmmf.

Any visit from a T-Nation hottie (yes I’m lookin’ at you Kimba, Miss Main and Maschy…note the alphabetical order to be all fair and Canadianish. Group Hug!!) is a good visit.

edit: I forgot The Super Snap Attack and Miss Oicanliftmorethanyou…sorry ladies.

Cycle 5, Week 3

Warm-up = meh, sorry Kimba. I did do some exta sets at low weight. Does that count?
OHP
95 x 5
115 x 3
145 x 4…PR +2 reps. Getting better but I still haz the OHP suckage.

Lateral DB complex (seated side, seated front, standing front alternating)
4 x a lot

BB curls
60 x 3
80 x 3
90 x 3
100 x 3
110 x 7…PR +2 reps I think
90 x 10…might be a PR.

Seated calves
1 x 100…rest pause. Ouch.

Talked to nice lady about her impending new bewbs.
Talked to another nice, strong lady about getting her Canadian citizenship, athletics in England and about being soccer parents. But I spent most of time trying to understand what the hell she was saying.

Hmmmm. Plenty o’time to chat up the ladies, but no time to warmup. I call shenanigans.

Sounds about right to me, I also have time to do no non-lift warm ups. Well except for a three block walk to the gym.

I don’t even do that. I drive the 3 blocks to my gym.

Cycle 5, week 3
w/u on treadmill walking at high incline for 5 minutes. Probably should be 10. My hip flexors have been tight lately.

Sumo Deads
some w/u sets
315 x 5
365 x 3
405 x 4…rep PR. In the back of my mind I was hoping for 6. But looking back at my logs, the last time I did 405 (prior to starting 5/3/1 about 6 months ago) I did ONE rep and had grip issues. I think I could’ve had 5 if I had been OK with my spleen shooting out my ass.
315 x 10

Leg curls
4 x 5-7

Rear delt machine
4 x 12-15

I was planning on doing avid but couldn’t find camera this morning. I know…lame.

edit: I weighed in at 196…I’m getting HYOOGE

nice PR. and who needs a spleen anyways? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

“Lemme spleen something to ya…”

Hey, a warmup! Nice.

That sumo pulling is coming right along for you. 405 for reps is big.

Always the ugly step-sister, I am. No hurt feelings. Truly. I’ve got a call in to the therapist, so I’m sure I’ll manage.

Might I suggest sex as a warmup to your training? Make it a five-minute quickie since you’re so pinched for time. Warms up all the muscles in your body.

I think Kimba makes an excellent point that you have no time to warm up but plenty of time to chat up the women. Priorities.
