Long Subject

Hi guys,

entirely new to bodubulding forums, but have learned a bit over the years by myself.

Have been a member of some type of gym since I was 16 (now 25) never really thought much about it, or wanted much from it other than just keeping a little fit.

However 3-4 months ago I decided to get big and leaner. Have always looked fairly well (lucky me), never been overweight (BF 10-12%). I have generally eaten very healthy, like we Scaninavians do… hehe and keep active skiing, walking, running, swimming etc. Generally a natural lifestyle, with clean food (nothing like hormones are allowed in our meat for example).

Anyway, started reading up on bodybuilding and went to gym 3-4 times a week and tried different type of sets etc, and things started to happen. Got excited and bought protein powder/bars, L-Glutamine and Creatine. Made shure I got 2g prot pr KG BW etc. Now all of this made me a LOT stronger, I suddenly dobled my benchpress to 90-100kg), but only looked a bit more toned. had physical test VO2, max strength, lung volume and expiration force, everything apart from a blood sample. I did above average to excellent on all of them.

Now what is average ? the normal British guy I guess, as I’m now living in GB, and I took the test here, not in Norway.

As far as I can tell, an average British male, or female for that matter looks like excuse me… shit. “Generally” overweight (35% of population), unhealthy diet (chips, chips, potatoes, pudding and the occational fish and chips), pale, depressed and well you get the picture. So I took the results with some ease and kept on and raised my targets. Hope I don’t sound too arrogant, I just wish they knew how much better they would feel about themselves, if they gave it a go.

Now this is my background and a few stats + picture are below:

25yo
81-83 kg
10% BF
187cm or 6 foot 2 inches

Now a little bit about my goals, I want to build a bigger, stronger and more toned/lean body, like the one’s you see on CalvinKlein commercials or a bit smaller than you see in Men’s Health. Not too big, don’t want it to be overly visible with clothes on, but make people say wow… when they see you undressed - not bulging - but “elegantly” buildt.

Now here’s my questions (finally):

-How many calories should I eat when bulging and how many when “cutting” (know I don’t really need to cut yet, but it keeps me focused on the goals and adds some variation and motivation to the training).

-Do you recommend that I only stay with the basic movements, squats, deadlift, bechpress etc. Or is it sometimes room to focus on, just eg. triceps and biceps as well.

-The strange thing is that I have improved massively on strength, but just some on muscle size/leaness… why ?

-Any other recommendations/ideas, should i take this Alpha Male ?

If you read this far, by now you must be bored by my chit chat, sorry for that, but thank you and good luck. Bodybuilding is a great sport !

good thing you didnt lower your camera before taking a picture! That would have kept us from reading your long post! Lol. I read your post but it got to be a bit too long and forgot what i was gonna say by the time i got to type. Just keep things simple like do compound exercises at low to mod volume if you don’t want to get big. Throw in 2-3 HIIT cardio days. Try t-dawg 2.0 diet. If you think one of body parts is lagging behind, you can go ahead and do isolate exercise using dumbells. That reminds me, I need to work on my biceps! If I wanted to get in superior shape without getting really big, I’d go with Joe Kenn’s tier system. It’s really geared for athletes. I like the way it makes me really mobile as opposed to Westside for powerlifters. Basically, it’s 3 days a week with westside methods thrown in, Charlie Francis’s methods (he trained Ben Johnson but his training methods are one of the best). It can get you in shape in a hurry depending on your diet. Keep in mind, to build muscles, you need two things- alot of carbs and alot of rest. With this particular program, you’d be burning alot of calories and doing alot of cardio, it’s impossible to get huge. Look at sprinters if you want to look like that. I do! Well since you wrote a long post. It’s only fair that I post a long one to get even with you for making me read that much. LOL. Just giving you a hard time.

He didn’t lower the camera because he would have had to name the thread “Short Subject”

Just kidding, bro. Looks like what you’re already doing is working.
