Littlelee Lifting And Sleeping Log

Thanks! Will do. BTW, I think we’re of similar age, height and weight, and with young adult or teenage kids…

Meanwhile…

Re: Strength goals vs. Aesthetics.

I remember another lifter here was fond of the saying -
Chase one rabbit at a time. I think that’s wise.

I sometimes alternate because the strength goals are fun. Work on strength and let my weight ride up for the fall and winter, or maybe for a year. BUT I’m not a competitive PLer, and I’m happy with my current level of muscle, or I’d just chase the strength rabbit. I was considering doing a meet this spring, and the people I train with have all backed out for various reasons, and I was OK with that.

We’re going to do our own mock meet in July, and that’s probably better for my goals. No singlet, no two-day event an hour away, no Fed fees… But do a mock meet with friends one Saturday morning and tape our lifts… Just for fun.

I really enjoy training in higher rep ranges for aesthetic goals and for general health, and because I LOVE it. So I’m more of a small figure type lifter, even though I have no interest in getting on a stage, if that makes sense?

Nap PR made me think of this.

@Frank_C- that sounds awful. Guess tjat is why you have warned me about not pushing my hips too much?
@anon71262119- Its very interesting we are of similar age etc…I definitly do not run into many people in our age bracket, with older kids who are in decent shape and lift weights. It’s normally “ I am too over worked to go to the gym, but I am fat blah blah”, or “ I just do cardio”.
As for aesthetics vs performance, performance is definitely most important to me. Don’t get me wrong. I like looking like I workout, I just don’t wanna get focused on that.
Your mock meet sounds like fun!!!

Well no nap pr for me, sigh.
Had a cool dream though.
Will now have two rest days. Wedding tomorrow, and most likely a hangover on Sunday, so I make no promises anything athletic besides raising a glass to my lips, and some dancing to missy elliot will occur this weekend.
Have a great weekend everyone, thanks for all the good advice.

GOOD PEEPS AROUND HERE.

Yes. I had a torn labrum and it was the result of impingement. I wasn’t aware I had any issues until I started having pain about this time last year. I didn’t figure out what was wrong until September and scheduled my surgery for December because my wife is a teacher and had two weeks off for Christmas break to help me with the kids (or just do everything).

I had to wait 12 weeks to get the green light to start running and lifting again. I cringed when I saw you talking about how deep your squats were and having pain in your hip. I’m not certain what caused my problem (or if it was even one specific thing), but I suspect that the depth I reach on front squats are what pushed me over the edge and caused my surgery. X-rays revealed that I had some extra bone formed on my femur and it was pinching/scraping my labrum. My right hip looks the same on x-rays but it doesn’t hurt so I’m hoping to avoid a second surgery.

Was the pain constant or intermittent? It must have been a progressive injury that developed over time? That sounds painful, and 12 weeks is a long time to recover, and not to be able to do anything!
My hip pain/discomfort is generally right on the inside of my hip bone, deep, or at the back of the hip down near the butt bone. I did change my squat up so it isnt as bad, but I do find walking alot with my orthodics makes it worse. Generally my hubby can elbow my hip area and it loosens it up. The discomfort is intermittent, and does not impact movement. Not sure what the signs of impingement are, but I will definitly keep my eye on continuing/worsening pain.

I truly hope you will not have to go through a second surgery! Fingers crossed!

My pain was limited to certain movements. Unfortunately the most painful movement was getting out of my patrol car. I had a Charger at the time and they sit really low to the ground. I basically did some external rotation, planted, and did a single leg squat to get out of the car. The pain felt like someone stabbed me in the hip when I did the external rotation part. It stayed right in that spot and just got worse over time. For me it was right behind the greater trochanter notch.

Place your finger on the bony protrusion on the outside of your hip/femur. Slide to the back of that and push in and a little forward and that’s where mine hurt. Most impingement/torn labrum symptoms actually occur in the groin area. I have a co-worker who is also very young (by hip surgery standards) that had the same surgery a few months ahead of me. His pain was in the groin, almost on the bottom of the pelvis. I think they call that the ischium.

You might google hip impingement symptoms and see if any of them sound familiar. It doesn’t mean you need to have surgery but it’s definitely something that deserves your attention moving forward.

I know exactly the area you are talking about because thats where I give intramuscular injections to patients. If I push on top of the bone in that area there is some tightness and discomfort, but not generally an area I feel pain. It CAN bother me after being on my feet 12 hours.

Crazy weekend! Wedding was fun, but I certainly paid for it Sunday. It was my hubby’s birthday, I made him rosemary beef tenderloin, with horseradish potatoes and thyme and garlic portobello mushroom (no pics, sorry)

Very busy week. My dog goes to vet today, we will see if his ammonia and blood levels are ok, I expect a huge bill because he is out of all his meds.

I will be working 50 hours this week, plus job interview and a night of poker. Not sure how I will fit in workouts, but for accountability sakes I plan to go this morning, wednesday afternoon and friday. I will have to catch up next week.

Hey so you mentioned about dry needling your hip in the other log and I wanted to pop in here and tell you I’ve been getting it done to my hip since November and it’s helped me a great deal .
It seems to help my muscles relax more than any massage or recovery type thing I have ever tried . It’s basically the only thing that has ever worked for me to be honest . I try to do it a few times a month or whenever I can feel my injuries wanting to resurface .
Glad u had a good weekend!!

Thank you for the feedback  it looks painful, but if it helps with long term discomfort I might be willing to give it a try!

Flat DB Fly’s

In and out today.

I have always had an issue with putting everything else in my life first, kids, work, cleaning etc…then I become pissed off and angry that I don’t have time to do anything for myself, or relax etc…
I made it to the gym, even though I am feeling anxious and overwhelmed with all the other stuff I have to do this week. I was very close this morning to saying “screw it” and just getting other stuff done. Even though my head wasn’t really in the game for this workout, and I was thinking of stuff I had to do, I still went.
Yeah me!

On this note; I was able to hit my own napping PR of 2hrs on the weekend.

It is those sessions that make the difference between just maintaining vs. reaching your goals. Good job getting the lift in!

Nice napping PR, think you might need to make them a little longer! I had a 3.5 hour nap yesterday, but I don’t count it cause I was hungover! Expect some big numbers from me this week, gotta get rest before night shifts.
Thanks for the encouragement, it really is hard for me to push myself to do things for myself!

This is why we have the logs, now you don’t do it only for yourself. You know we’re lurking around, saying OHHH LL didn’t lift today
Btw that is the beauty of 5/3/1 when you really in a hurry. You can go in and just do the main lift and no more.
And I would say 3,5 hour nap is a big PR, going to be hard to beat.

I am glad you are lurking and keeping me accountable!

The only thing you are getting from me tomorrow is a napping pr though! Dam night shifts!

Oh, and dog vet fee? almost $1000. Ya, fml!

How much are new dogs?

Just kidding! But I do wonder what I’m doing spending $175 at the annual vet appointment when I only paid $135 for the dog in the first place. I can get a new dog every year for less money!

But they wouldn’t be Elaine…

Omg so cute!!! What type of dog is she? My dog not new, just sick :frowning: but look at this face…

Hard to think about not taking care of them even though they can be expensive.

Our dog is a puggle and possibly a bit of something else. She’s a shelter doggy. We got her when she was about 8 months old. She’s 9 now. That picture is an older one but she hasn’t changed much. I just love how she draped herself on the arm of the couch like a blanket. We have nicer furniture and she’s not allowed on it anymore!

Our dog,has a cogenital liver problem which will cost over $8000 to fix! So thats not gonna happen, nor will I ever get a purebred dog again. He is the sweetest dog ever, doesnt chew, go on the furniture, bark or drool excessively, and loves everybody.
He is good looking, but stupid, good combo in a dog (in a mate, not so sure, lol). Love the beast!

Gonna do some medication detective work and see if we can manage to get him off some of his $300/month meds…sigh!

Night shift tonight. Will wake wednesday, get 4 hours sleep and go for my interview, wish me luck!
