Woohoo that was very good news.
It’s stressful having a family to attend and trying to find a new job, hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the summer even more.

Ok, so picked up some shifts to help out til hubby gets his first pay check, he starts Monday, so I am DONE working my ass off!!!

My friend from work, who competed in her first powerlifting competition this summer, has asked me to try a powerlifting competition with her in December…
AND I SAID YES!!!

So training starts in earnest Monday. My only issue is that I am not sure 5/3/1 is gonna increase my lifts to where I want them to be, by December…

So, any program suggestions? @littlesleeper, or any powerlifters out there???

I am so excited!!!

Congrats! That’s a great relief and I’m happy to hear it.

That’s amazing! Welcome to the club. I’m addicted now and am getting ready to prep for my 2nd meet that is scheduled for November. I’m using coach @BOTSLAYER and he knows how much I love my 5/3/1 as well and made a program for me which basically cycles through 5/3/1 twice as quickly for the powerlifts. This is the program he did for my next competition that I’ll be following.

Otherwise there are a few other programs I was looking at before Bots helped me out like Candito’s 6 week program has received some great reviews online and can be found for free. @MarkKO is someone I like to lean on heavily for powerlifting questions as well, so he is an awesome name to drop here.

Also, some ladies with plenty of lifting experience might be able to share their insight as well: @ouroboro_s @ChickenLittle @Spock81

Good luck and enjoy the prep! I’ll be following along.

TBH if you’re doing Bot’s programming I probably can’t really add anything useful because I’ve had my best results using Greg Panora’s system which is very, very far removed from Bot’s approach.

I’m happy to help if I can, obviously, but I’m usually very hesitant to tell someone to go against what their coach has them doing, which is pretty much what I would be doing. This applies especially when the coach in question is someone I have a lot of time for.

That’s great!

Good stuff going on in this log

Hey LL

That’s great news no more extra work and a PL meet coming up.

@planetcybertron is one of the strongest girls around here, she might have an advise or two as well.

I have absolutely no experience in PL.
I could point you to CT’s built for battle/the OG Built for Bad which is found here on TN, as a preparation. Do it for 4-5 weeks,
Then you’d have about 12 weeks left for preparation.
The BfB circuits have you doing heavy singles 5 days a week on all the big lifts. The OG buries you in 4-5 weeks but you have very heavy weights on you.
.
But as you know 5/3/1 is my go to program.

Haven’t been here in a while and some great stuff going on. It’s raining PRs and progress from your pics was quality. Great job. B

My only advice is to enjoy it and have fun !! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. I did that when I was prepping for a meet and I started hating training and my workouts got shitty . Just savour the process and believe in yourself!

Ya, I’m doing Bot’s programming, but this program I linked was kind of tailored for me. I was just wondering if you had any other programs (non-custom) that you were familiar with or that you thought would be a good place to start for Littlelee. Definitely not asking you to go against Bots!

Its funny you should say this, the program I currently recommend is a lot closer to what I think 5th set is than 531. (From what I have been able to read about 5th set. Probably going to buy the E-Book actually.)

Thanks!! I actually lean on your log and opinions a bunch more than you might think!

@littlesleeper I redid your old program because you had good results with that but I have also now included that program ā€œWorking Titleā€. You have ~5 weeks to make / decide on a program so no need to rush. And any of those you see in the programs sheet if you want adapted to a prep just to see what it would look like let me know.

@littlelee take a look in here and see what kind of program you like and I can design something more personalized.

Lot of 531 based, some RPE stuff, linear, bit of everything. You are about 20 Weeks out so that leaves you with ~10-14 weeks of offseason before a prep.

If you like 531 I make some changes to that program to make it more powerlifting specific and that is the tab I linked. The other I mentioned earlier is ā€œWorking Titleā€ and it’s various versions are what I tend to recommend now.

@littlesleeper I appreciate the honorable memtion, but I still consider myself a newbie in this game and unworthy to offer advice.

@littlelee I do agree with @Spock81 though. Have fun and just enjoy the process. I have a bad habit of getting wrapped up in the details. I have blown off two meets this way. Just relax and keep doing what you’re doing. You are making awesome progress!

@ouroboro_s is definitely the veteran PLer. @anon71262119 is not only beautiful but knows more about this game than almost anyone on this site. And even though she doesn’t compete @brute_fury is a force to be reckoned with!

You got this!

FIRST OF ALL, thank you to everybody!! Honestly, your posts, support and encouragement is amazing, and really helps to motivate me, and touches my heart!

@littlesleeper- thank you for the suggestions, and shout outs to others who can help! You have done so well, I really respect your advice! When I get closer to the meet I will definitly be asking more meet related questions!

@MarkKO- thank you for stopping by! I often read your posts and learn something, I respect your advice and appreciate anything you can suggest!

@duketheslaya- thank youšŸ˜€. How is your living situation?? Sounds like things are going well! I do follow along in your log…

@mortdk- you have given me so much amazing advice, I am happy to hear it! You have been so motivating and encouraging, I will proberly need that to continue through this journey!
@simo74- thank you, thanks for peeking in!
@Spock81-great advice!!! I think I am doing it cause its been a bucket list thing, I am doing it for the experience mostly…the training will be hard and stressful, but really looking forward to the process…Looks like things are going well for you, and reading your log puts a smike on my face because you seem so happy!

@BOTSLAYER- I really appreciate the program link, that you have stopped by my journal, and your offer of help! I am going to look over that link this weekend and see what looks good. All I know is I have slow recovery, and will need a program for 3/4 days a week…I doubt I could get into the gym more then that! I do like 5/3/1 but think at my current speed my lifts will not improve enough to be competitive come meet day. Thank you soooo much!

@ChickenLittle- I respect your opinion greatly, and appreciate your words of advice! I will try really hard to not overthink it, but given I did a fitness comp on my own(and with the dieting and constant worry about appearance) I think competing to just lift heavy things should be less anxiety provoking!! Thank you for your support!

Yeah things are going well! One more thing left to do, which i can do in a couple of weeks hopefully, and things will be ultra super well haha.

@BOTSLAYER you’ll probably love 5th Set if you read it. It isn’t exactly what Greg does with us, but there are many similarities. What Greg does has elements of Cube in how the days cycle too.

Hey there. I can’t speak for 5/3/1. I’ve been competing for10 years and make my own training cycles. Mine are based on experience with my own recovery which, at 53 isn’t what it was before.

If you’re getting decent results with 5/3/1 and enjoy it, you may just want to stick with it and source an uncomplicated peaking cycle for just before the meet.

I sincerely hope you enjoy competing as much as I do. In September it will be 10 years since my first. I still get amped up and excited. Bad meets make me want to get back out and do better. Good meets make me want to do even more the next time. It’s a bit of an addiction
