A protein in the brain that surges in response to exercise may lead to an entirely new kind of antidepressant, according to a Yale study published in Nature Medicine.

The chemical is also boosted by electro-convulsive therapy, which psychiatrists consider the “gold standard” for treating depression, but which carries a stigma that discourages many patients…

shocker

That whole electro convulsive thing flips me out.

So there is actually science behind lifting making me happy…

Interesting find though, kinda inline with the whole “exercising releases endorphins thing” too.

Wow, check out the third line of that article:

“If the discovery leads to a new pharmaceutical, the beneficial effects of exercise and ECT might be available in pill form.”

Sad :\

There have been scientific studies that prove exercise can treat depression. Just do a google search. You’ll find dozens.

That’s beyond sad. Just reinforces that pill popping society. Makes me sick.

On a related note, here’s an episode of SHR where they discuss depression and training.

Happens all the time, come in the gym from a shit day, feeling kind of depressed. By the end , you just feel better.

…note, may not work on tricep kickback day.
