Hey guys,
I am in the middle of having mono right now and am always thinking about getting back into the gym and eating right once I actually have an appetite. This brought me to one dilemma . . . . I have no idea how to lift after coming back from mono!
Since I hardly have an appetite and am not doing anything but lying around, I realize my conditioning will suck for a few weeks. I know I have a tendency to push myself after a vacation or something but I just cant push myself in the gym for a little bit.
I assume it will take like a month to get back to my body weight and strength levels from before all this thanks to muscle memory. My goal is to return to my original state as fast as possible with a proper progression.
So, any ideas on sets-reps-# of exercises per body part? I just want to ease back into it as prepared as possible.
Thanks a lot!
My advice is to ease into it. You will try to rush to the gym as soon as you feel you are capable, but this is not the best approach.
Even after a few good workouts you will not be set free from mono. Do yourself a favor and stay away from compound lifts and strenuous workouts until you really are able to go back.

I agree. I technically feel capable now and it has only been 1.5 weeks so far but I know I shouldn’t for a couple weeks at least. Any ideas as to how to specifically train upon my return?

I agree. I went balls to the wall after mono and gained all of my weight back (20 lbs) but felt shitty ALL of the time. It really took a long time to recover from that shit. Don’t go to heavy, your body needs rest. Ease into it and listen to yourself HONESTLY.
To be totally honest, I think I grew more after mono than any other point in my life. I was still tired fucking 24/7, but I went to the gym, completed my workouts, and forced food down. Protein shakes will help you so much here. Besides going to class and the gym all I really did was sleep, and I think that’s why I grew so much.
Well, I am done having mono. I did not force food down cuz that just would have been a recipe for continuous vomiting and also I could hardly get yogurt past my extremely swollen throat.
I just listened to my body and rested optimally with medication. I got 100% better 1.5 weeks after I got mono and have the appetite that I used to have. I also lost 10 lbs which ain’t so bad for bein away for a week and I think I can recover in a few months.
I will first do push/pull total body workouts of like 3-4 sets of 15-20 reps for like 1 exercise per body part. My spleen is still enlarged so I’m nervous about putting heavy pressure on the stomach.
I will do this probably every other day as an introduction to light weights for a few weeks. Any thoughts on this strategy?
