Let me explain the situation. My dog is getting surgery on Thursday, so that night (all through the night) he will be in a decent amount of pain (I know he will, he already had this surgery on his other hip), and he will whine all night.
Since my parents have to work the next day, they told me I would be staying up all night taking care of him. I will not be able to get much, if any, sleep because I have to constantly watch him to help him. I lift on Friday (day after surgery). Should I move my lifting session to Saturday? I usually lift M/W/F
I’m doing SS, so I only lift 3 days a week. Would bumping my normal Friday session to Saturday for this 1 week be a good idea since I would have very little sleep the night before Friday’s lifting session?

I would do that if I had to, and I do have to take care of my dog for most of the day, but when my parents get home they take care of him for a while, giving me some free time.
I’d just do the workout on Saturday. You can try going Friday but if you are tired and know you will have a shitty session, why even bother.
I don’t think shifting a rest day will make any amount of difference in the long run. I mix days around all the time based on work b.s. or forgetting my training shoes or gym card all the time.
Hope your dog does well with the surgery and recovery as well.

Look, I understand that sometimes life gets in the way of training, but the whole training can wait mentality is about the worst one you can adopt if you plan on making any real progress.
If he can get to the gym on Saturday, he should. I wouldn’t go on Friday due to the lack of sleep, but I wouldn’t willingly write off a day if there was a way to get it in.
Play it by ear. Sometimes I feel fine on less sleep, so if you do, go on friday. If you feel like shit, wait until saturday.
This works best for me, and allows me to just go home or not go at all if i’m just having one of those days where I know i’m just going to going through the motions and won’t be able to push myself or concentrate enough to maintain good form on heavy lifts.
Lift Friday, it may take you a little while to get going but by the time you get done with warming up you should be good to go. Then you have a real reason to sleep in on Saturday.

IF life trys to get in my way, ill bump it a day, or move it from WWF to T TH S
or sometimes ill just move fridays workout to saturday if we want to go out friday night.
BE VERY VERY CAREFUL about going into a workout with a lack of sleep. If your a novice, you can probably get away with it, but if you an intermediate to advanced lifter, any little deviation in your recovery can hamper gains.
My suggestion would be to do a Saturday workout. This way you will be fresh and ready to train.
I know I may be going overboard with this to an extent, but I find more injuries are likely to occur when your sleep patterns are off and training intensity continues to increase.
Bottom line: Don’t underestimate the power of sleep. It really is a big key to recovery/regeneration along with a good calorie intake.
