I was just wondering if anyone here has used L -arginine as a supplement in some shape or form (l-arginine or l-arginine alpha ketogluterate). I know its generally regarded as a worthless supplement since its all thats really in the NO stuff.
I realize that the vasodilation effects for the most part are a waste of money, but I have heard that l-arginine has been linked to some increases in growth hormone on top of being a vasodilator.
Has anyone tried this, and if so, did you find it helpful? Or was it pretty much worthless, which is the general vibe I have gotten.
L-Arginine is a somastatin inhibitor, so yes, it should increase GH output. For it to be worthwhile you have to dose it much higher than people’s stomaches can tolerate, though.

Back in the early '80s taking very high doses of arginine and ornithine was very popular. I never really noticed much benefit back then.[/quote]
Yeah, I agree.
It’s funny how some of the failed supplements from that time are now re-appearing.

Do you know how much is needed to be effective? Or how much the stomach can tolerate? Or even what makes l-arginine not tolerated in larger doses?
Thanks everyone.

I have managed to get 60 grams in my over the course of a day, 20grams at at time. I mix the powder (which is the foulest tasting sup I have taken) with grape juice, and then drink it. I have gotten away with taking 20grams at once AFTER a high carb meal. I was taking it to help rehab and injury and I noticed that I was looking more cut afterwards, so I suppose it helps.
