@Push-Do you or did you initially get really sore in your obliques from stabilizing the weight? That is what I have had experience with. Anybody else had the same?
So, I have a problem. In the past, I’ve had some issues with an inguinal hernia. It never really got too severe. More of a scare than anything really. However, since my last run-in, I’ve learned to tell when I’m pushing it too far. I went ahead and gave my rows a go last night and, let me tell you, it didn’t feel so great in my lower abdomen. So, I really want to keep giving Kroc Rows a shot, but not sure how to avoid irritating my trouble area. Any ideas? Would wearing a belt help? Maybe adding in some direct abdominal training?
Am I just screwed? I’m going to be pretty pissed if I can’t do them. The rotation is the problem, I’m sure. So, Push, in the chance that I can’t risk doing them, is there any other upper back exercises you swear by that could at least somewhat stand in for Kroc Rows?

Thanks, guys. Just for kicks, here are the before’s from 3 or so years back when I found this place and one of the veterans decided to give me some guidance. Hormones and bodyfat levels way out of control here…[/quote]
Did you ever post in my Permabulking Memoirs thread?

Yeah I did post there. That before pic I posted is completely untrained (and obese, of course), what’s missing is a pic at the mid point, bulked up. Most people wouldn’t think to bulk up if they looked like I did, but I think it’s the best approach really. Get some muscle on you ASAP, worry about cutting it down later.
Once I get down to 6-8% BF, I’m bulking up again… how far I’ll take it depends, but I’m hoping to gain 50 lbs before hitting 20% BF, going from about 165 to 215 or so (current bodyweight 174). I’m over 30 and don’t want to use hormones, so this is my last shot to put on some real muscle. Man I wish I had started this thing at 18, lol.
giving these a try again
eventually I’ll just order these:
they seem like a good solution to your problem, Push

I love using the DB row handle. I got mine from westcarry barbell, but it’s the same premise. Great piece of equipment.
